The Wormians are a religious movement worshipping El Gusano Grande, located near Viejo Nuevo, Mexico. Led by Wor-El, they opposed the Enduro-Slam 5000 and aided the monster in terrorizing the event.
Belief system[]
The Wormians were a fanatical religious group worshipping El Gusano Grande, a colossal, sand-dwelling monster that roamed the desert near Viejo Nuevo, Mexico. Though the monster was the disguise of racer Gibby Norton, the Wormians were unaware of this, believing El Gusano Grande to be a real monster. Living away from civilization in an underground cave system, they erected sand statues of the monster and all wore green and purple worm costumes. They were not affiliated with Norton in any way, but they nevertheless aided him in his crimes by freeing the monster from a trap.
Considering the desert to be the monster's sacred territory, the Wormians opposed motor vehicles being used in the area, believing it to be an act of desecration. Daphne and Velma mistook them for environmental activists as they were seen protesting the Enduro-Slam 5000 (an off-road race). The Wormians also practiced human sacrifice as they attempted to feed Mystery Inc. to the monster for racing in the area. During these sacrificial rituals, they would repeatedly chant phrases such as "Long live the worm" and "Long live Gusano Grande."
History[]
What's New, Scooby-Doo?[]
The Wormians worshipped El Gusano Grande, though completely unaware it was merely the disguise of a human, Gibby Norton. They lived in "Wormtopia," an underground cave system near Viejo Nuevo, Mexico. Believing motor vehicles desecrated the monster's sacred territory, they protested the Enduro-Slam 5000, a twenty-four-hour off-road race in the area. Velma and Daphne mistook them for environmental activists as the group protested near the race's starting line.
Later, after El Gusano Grande created a gaping gorge across the race course, the Mystery Machine fell into the gorge and into Wormtopia. The group's leader, Wor-El, attempted to feed Mystery Inc. to El Gusano Grande as a human sacrifice. However, they escaped with the help of fellow racer Roberto Torres.
As Mystery Inc. proceeded to Diablo Gulch, the final part of the race, they prepared a net trap across the entire gulch to capture the monster. Though the trap succeeded, the Wormians intervened and cut the net, freeing the monster. However, Fred used the Mystery Machine to slash the monster in two, destroying it, and the Wormians retreated.
