Trading Chases is the sixth episode of season 1 of Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!

Premise[]

Fred lets a museum tour guide lead the gang, angry with being ignored. He then tries to lead a bunch of unmanageable kids.

Synopsis[]

Two security guards patrol a museum's Egyptian exhibit but encounter the crocodile deity Sobek. The next morning, Fred brings the gang to see the "History of Mystery" exhibit at a local museum, though the other members want to see the Egyptology exhibit instead. Inside, they meet a tour guide, Jeff, leading four children on a tour of the History of Mystery exhibit. As Fred joins the tour, Jeff challenges Fred's leadership of the gang, implying he is incapable of leading them. To settle their dispute, Jeff offers to lead the gang as they investigate the reported Sobek attacks while Fred leads the children's tour.

Jeff's group tours the Egyptian exhibit and meets two resident Egyptologists, Professor Hess and Salazar, who belligerently disagree with each other. While Hess believes the curse of Sobek is real, Salazar dismisses it as a myth. They also find two Sobek statues in an exhibit where Jeff remembered there being only one. After encountering Sobek, they escape to the cafeteria to eat. As Fred leads the children, he reunites with Jeff's group in the cafeteria, where Professor Hess claims there is a golden statue hidden in the exhibit's sarcophagus, but Salazar dismisses the theory.

As Daphne's hawk suddenly flies off to a neighbouring exhibit, Jeff's group follows it, finding model alligator heads stored near the display. Meanwhile, Fred's group tries to form his own detective group to investigate the Sobek attacks, encouraging the four children to explore. As the two groups meet again in the Egyptian exhibit, Fred denies he is using the children as his "replacement gang." As they approach the sarcophagus supposedly with the statue inside, Sobek suddenly appears and chases them away.

After escaping Sobek, Fred admits he has been using the children to replace the gang. Jeff acknowledges his successes leading the gang but admits he does not know how to capture the monster. So, the two groups join forces to prepare a trap. Shaggy and Scooby touch the sarcophagus to lure Sobek, and then Daphne's falcon, Dwayne, and a child's pigeon, Junior, attack Sobek. They then wrap Sobek with bandages and trap him inside the sarcophagus, capturing him.

As the police arrive, Sobek is unmasked and revealed to be Professor Salazar. Salazar knew there was a gold statue in the sarcophagus, so she used the Sobek disguise to scare potential witnesses away as she stole the gold statue. She hid it among the other museum statues but continued using the disguise so she could extract it. Despite portraying a crocodile deity, Salazar used an alligator head for her costume. As Salazar is handed to authorities, Hess insists on going with her so he can continue arguing with her in prison. Meanwhile, Jeff quits guiding museum tours to start a detective group with the four children, though Fred stops him when he tries to drive away in the Mystery Machine.

Quotes[]

Jeff: Welcome to the History of Mystery! My name is Jeff and I'll be your tour guide. Are you ready to learn about mystery solving throughout the ages?
Fred: Absolutely!
Kids: Yeah!
Velma: Does Fred know this is a tour for children?

Fred: Velma, don’t forget to be a tactless know-it-all!
Velma: I’m the tactless one?
Scooby: Duh!
(Shaggy nods, Daphne smiles endearingly)
Velma: Done.

Daphne: Um, what's happening?
Velma: They're arguing in hieroglyphics. It's a well known fact in the science community that all Egyptologists hate each other.

Jeff: Well, the first clue was the second statue we found on the scene. that could only mean one thing.
. Velma: Yep. And that is...
Jeff: Sobek was kidnapping barbers and transforming them into statues to appease the angry corn people of Kathmandu!
