The Tao of Scoob! is the fifteenth episode of season 2 of Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? and the 41st overall.

Premise[]

Mystery Inc. visits an art gallery to meet a friend of Scooby-Doo's. But when they arrive, instead of finding Lucy Liu they are accosted by a sculpture monster who is wreaking havoc before the official opening. But the big question is... is Scooby's art any good?

Synopsis[]

Mystery Inc. visits New York to visit an art museum owned by Scooby's friend. They tour the museum before it opens. However, one of the sculptures comes to life and attacks them, only to be stopped by Scooby's friend, actress Lucy Liu. Liu explains that she befriended Scooby after Scooby created an art piece by throwing paint around a room. However, she explained that her museum was attacked by the sculpture monster, and in addition some of her art pieces were destroyed.

Liu shows Mystery Inc. her destroyed workshop, and Velma notes that the culprit's traces indicate they were searching for something in the room. Liu meets an art collector offering to buy Liu's art but refusing to pay the full price. The collector curses the museum after Liu declines his offers, making him a suspect for the crime. Mystery Inc. decides to collaborate with Liu to investigate the crime, knowing that they have less than 24 hours to solve the crime before her art opening.

Returning to the gallery, they meet with the maintenance worker, who shames Scooby for spilling paint on the floor. After encountering the monster who chases them out of the museum, they escape the monster at a nearby pizzeria using Liu's scooter. Returning to the museum, they meet with Seger, a film producer looking to a shoot a film with Liu, but Liu declines the offer as it would conflict with her art opening.

Going into the kitchen, they find a newspaper article depicting Liu with a piece of wood, one of her keepsakes. Liu explains that she obtained the piece while dumpster diving for art material, and decided to keep it for its sentimental value. Liu demonstrates that she keeps the wood piece in a puzzle box that can only be opened by pressing certain tiles. They then search the dumpster where the wood piece was found, where Velma notes that the museum is located near JFK International Airport. Liu discovers that her piece of wood is really a secret cache, containing the Birchenwald Emerald which was stolen from the airport decades ago.

Mystery Inc. then prepares a trap to capture the sculpture monster. Scooby holds the emerald in his hand and lures the monster into view, then Mystery Inc. passes the emerald to each other, preventing the monster from taking it. The monster eventually succeeds in taking the emerald, but Scooby takes it back from it. The monster then chases Scooby to the puzzle box, where Scooby eventually captures the monster inside the box.

The sculpture turned out to be the maintenance worker, who was really notorious thief Jimmy the Pidgeon undercover. Jimmy was the thief who originally stole the Birchenwald Emerald from the airport, but got caught by undercover officers. However, he before his arrest, he hid the emerald in a puzzle box and discarded it in a dumpster, hoping to retrieve it after he was released from prison, but did not expect Liu to find it, so he used the disguise to scare her away and get the emerald back. After Jimmy is handed over to authorities, Liu decides to collaborate with Scoob in creating an experimental art piece, titled The Tao of Scoob.

Quotes[]

Lucy Liu: (Gasps) It's a puzzle box, of course. Why didn't I see that before?
Shaggy: It's because you named it a piece of wood. So you could never see it as a puzzle box.
Lucy Liu: Shaggy, that's actually, truly brilliant, and makes perfect sense!
Shaggy: (Chuckles) Now hurry up and un-name it so I can see if it turns into a pepperoni pizza.
Lucy Liu: And he's back!
