The Scarab Lives! is the first episode of Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo.

Premise

Shaggy and Scooby's favorites comic book, The Blue Scarab, becomes the center of this mystery. The Blue Scarab writer, Jerry Sloan, is haunted by his comic creation, who wants him to stop writing.

Synopsis

Jerry Sloan, a cartoonist, was being menaced by his own comic book creation, the Blue Scarab, who was forcing Sloan to stop drawing comic books of the Scarab. The gang and their new friend, Scooby's nephew who wanted to fight monsters and ghosts, Scrappy-Doo heard about the menace in Jerry Sloan's studio.

After they interview him, Daphne, Velma, & Fred talked to publisher, Mr Hardy. If Sloan doesn't keep writing anymore comics, he'll be fired! Meanwhile, the Blue Scarab returns, warning the rest of the gang that he'll go through a life of crime and then he escaped.

Shaggy figured it the same thing happend in an unpublished comic where a masterthief hypnotized the Scarab into commiting thefts and robberies for him. And the places the Scarab is going to rob are the jewelery store where he stole gems, a bank where he stole some money, and the city museum where he stole the ruby crown. And the Blue Scarab has struck again and Jerry Sloan quit.

However, the gang figured out the mystery and went back to the presses to find the Scarab. Scrappy, Shaggy & Scooby accidently stand on the conveyor belt where the Blue Scarab tried to slice & dice them. But Scrappy grabbed on to a hook for safety. Then Scrappy attacked the Scarab and Shaggy and Scooby wrapped the Scarab with printing press paper.

Back at the studio, Velma explained the clues that helped her figure out what was going. Because of the crimes, whoever was pretending to be the Scarab, had to read the unpublished comic. Their second clue was that whoever it was might be a good artist. The Scarab was painted pretty well on the wall. It could be Sloan's competitor, Floyd Hotchkiss, the best artist in town. But their last clue was the Blue Scarab's disappearence in the hallway. And the only person in the hall was Sloan's assitant, Howard Gruger. Sloan unmasked the Scarab as Howard Gruger. He just patted his suit and loaded with gadgets like Sloan created in his comic. Grueger was sick & tired of being Sloan's unknown assistant. He dressed up like the Blue Scarab to destroy the Scarab so he could create his own character. Gruger was apprehended and persumbly taken to prison.
