Premise[]

The gang goes to the Grind Games in San Francisco to meet an old friend who is participating. However, they soon find out that the games are being terrorized by a former Alcatraz inmate, the San Franpsycho.

Synopsis[]

A skateboarding tournament called the Grind Games is held in San Francisco, California, but a zombie-like monster attacks the skateboarders and kidnaps one of the contestants. Mystery Inc. visits the competition the next day to meet a contestant, Ryan Sheckler, who tells them about the attacks. They also meet a group of street artists, the Red Persons Troupe, who oppose the Grind Games for being located on their performance area. As they watch the tournament, they watch as the monster appears and nearly kidnaps a skateboarder, only stopped by other skateboarders.

A tour guide Julian Libris identifies the monster as the San Franpsycho, the supposed ghost of Clint Morris, an Alcatraz prisoner who attempted to escape but was killed by a shark. Libris brings Mystery Inc. to Alcatraz, but refuses to enter the prison with them for fear of the monster. Inside, they are attacked by the San Franpsycho, but after escaping the monster, they find a programme indicating the monster was targetting the Grind Games competitors. The monster suddenly rides away on Libris' boat, but Libris is strangely absent. Mystery Inc. rides another motorboat back to the mainland, though the boat is destroyed by sharks.

Returning to the tournament the next day, Mystery Inc. finds that one of the judges, Rutie Banez, secretly admires Sheckler. They then confront Libris, who claims that the monster knocked him unconscious and stole his boat. After being attacked by the monster again, they catch the leader of the Red Persons Troupe, Haze Ferlinguini, appearing to sabotage the stage. Ferlinguini claims he was building a replacement stage for his troupe to use after the Grind Games took their original stage. Mystery Inc. decides to split up to investigate both Ferlinguini and Libris.

Velma, Shaggy and Scooby sneak into the Red Persons Troupe's recreational vehicle while they are rehearsing. They find costumes and makeup inside, proving Haze had the means to disguise himself as the San Franpsycho. However, they are caught by Ferlinguini after spilling red paint on themselves. Haze mistakes them for his own performers, but they are forced to flee after the real performers arrive. Meanwhile, Fred, Daphne and Ryan follow Libris onto a cable car, but lose him. The monster appears and sabotages the car by derailing it, causing it to roll downhill and fall into the bay.

Mystery Inc. prepares a trap for the monster at the tournament venue; Velma builds an electromagnetic helmet for Fred that would attract the monster's hook. However, the trap fails as Fred's helmet is attracted towards a passing vehicle. The monster chases Scooby, who accidentally rides on a skateboard, onto the half-pipe, but Scooby crashes into the monster, sending it flying and crashing into a tent.

The San Franpsycho is revealed to be Banez, who wanted to sabotage the event by attacking the competitors except Sheckler. Banez thought she was denied entry as a competitor solely because she was a girl, but Ryan demonstrates that she simply did not have the skateboarding skills to compete. After Banez is handed to authorities, the members of Mystery Inc. become the contest judges, all giving Sheckler a perfect score.
