The Mystery of Teen Romance is the first episode of the second season of Velma.
Premise[]
It is three weeks since Velma solved the mystery of the serial killer, when she and Daphne find the body of Sheriff Cogburn. Norville is having hallucinations due to feeling guilty about killing Fred's mother. Daphne's parents decide to run for Sheriff, and Fred still believes his mother is innocent - due to being possessed by the ghost of Edna Perdue.
Synopsis[]
Three weeks after Velma exposed Victoria Jones as a serial killer, she and Daphne decide to attend a party in the forest, where Daphne suspects Velma of having affections towards Norville. However, their discussion is cut off when they discover the body of Sheriff Cogburn, who was murdered at the police station.
When authorities arrive to investigate the crime scene, Velma, believing Victoria is still alive, demands that her grave be exhumed, but this request is denied by authorities who insist she is deceased. Fred, who has converted to Christianity, claims to the press that Victoria was possessed by the ghost of Edna Perdue, making Perdue the true killer. She meets a goth girl, Amber, the daughter of a former member of the Hex Girls, Thorn.
Velma attempts to speak with Norville, who is suffering from hallucinations and battling guilt from killing Victoria in self-defense. Velma, however, becomes infatuated with a biology teacher, Gavin Swendig, also called Mr. S. Later, she attempts to secretly visit Victoria's grave to exhume it, but is stopped by a masked attacker. The attacker threatens to attack her with a shovel but disappears, leaving behind a sneaker for her to collect as evidence. However, Velma's mother stops her from investigating further, believing her investigative work to be endangering her. Still, Velma collects a fingerprint from the sneaker when her mother is not watching, but the shoe is later destroyed by one of Fred's dogs.
While Amber moves into Daphne's house, Velma speaks with Norville, where she notes that Norville had the attacker's other sneaker. Velma questioning him, Norville revealed that he collected the other sneaker to aid him in his investigation. They then travel to the funeral home, where they discover that Cogburn's funeral was held without their knowledge, and Cogburn's body was missing from his coffin. They discover that Cogburn has a brother, but are confronted by Daphne, who suspects her parents for the murder. Learning from Amber that Donna and Linda have been planning their campaign to replace him for weeks, she deduces they killed Cogburn to take his job as sheriffs.
Velma and Diya attend Donna and Linda's campaign party, but Velma sneaks away to investigate Donna and Linda at Daphne's house. There, they discover case files, but are confronted by Donna and Linda themselves, who prove their innocence; while Cogburn's body was only found the day before, they knew he was murdered because his blood was found at the police station. They do, however, point to a likely suspect, Mr. S, who was heard talking about Edna Perdue during the campaign party.
Velma speaks with Diya in search for Mr. S but fails to find him or any proof of his involvement with the crime. Given the lack of competent police officers investigating the crime, Diya finally allows Velma to investigate Cogburn's murder. However, Velma later has an argument with Daphne, and she also discovers that Amber has moved into Daphne's bedroom. Meanwhile, Norville apologizes to Fred and discovers that his hallucinations subsided when Fred reluctantly began to accept his apology, but when Fred decided not to accept his apology, a hallucination depicting Victoria appears.
That night, Mr. S was working out in his room and gets a text from Velma asking about Edna Perdue. He texts her that he will tell her everything tomorrow as long as she does not tell Diya he is not looking for a relationship. Suddenly, the lights flicker, and he sees a glowing light coming from outside his room. He goes to the door, but is killed instead, his blood splattering on the windows.
