The Lost Mines of Kilimanjaro! is the eighteenth episode of season 2 of Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? and the forty fourth overall.

Premise[]

While in Africa, the gang meet actress Jessica Biel, whose group has been attacked by a twenty foot tall gorilla. But when Velma decodes an old diary, everyone heads for King Soloman's mines.

Synopsis[]

Mystery Inc. travels through Africa to get to Diani Beach, but instead gets lost in the Tanzanian jungle. There, they encounter an abnormally large gorilla, who attacks the Mystery Machine before leaving. They meet actress Jessica Biel, who also got lost with her tour group after encountering the gorilla. Believing it to be an undiscovered primate species, they collaborate to investigate the gorilla.

In the jungle, Scooby befriends a leopard cub, who decides to follow him as his companion. Mystery Inc. then meets the three members of Biel's tour group: oilman W.B. Shuggs, real-estate developer Dan Marrimbas, and travel writer Joyce Dranders. Mystery Inc. deems all three of them suspicious. Just then, the gorilla attacks them and chases them, despite Biel's best attempts to tame the beast.

Mystery Inc. and Biel are chased into a treehouse, which they find to be recently-inhabited. They find a notebook written in an ancient cipher belonging to an explorer. According to the text, the explorer was searching for a certain treasure within the jungle, but Velma is unable to further decipher the text. Though they attempt to investigate the treehouse further, they are chased again by the gorilla. Biel tries again to tame the gorilla, but to no avail.

This time, Mystery Inc. finds refuge behind a waterfall, where they successfully escape the gorilla's pursuit. There, Velma finishes deciphering the notebook and deduces the explorer was searching for the lost, treasure-filled mines of King Solomon. They find the entrance to the mines and solve the puzzle required to open the door. As they venture through the mines, Fred uses his intuition to detect and disarm the several traps throughout before they finally reach the room with the treasures.

Suddenly, a thief obscuring their identity appears and takes a jewel, with the intention of running away with it. However, the thief sets off a trap, trapping themself and Mystery Inc. in a room filling with lava. The gorilla appears from the ceiling to attack them. However, after seeing the leopard cub in peril, the gorilla decides to rescue the entire group, also capturing the thief.

The thief turned out to be Joyce Dranders, and the giant gorilla was revealed to be a mechanical suit operated by one of her trained gorillas. Dranders had been seeking the treasures in the mines, but was unable to unlock the entrance or disarm the traps. So, she slashed the tires on the Mystery Machine and used the gorilla to chase Mystery Inc. towards the mines. After Dranders is handed over to authorities, Scooby returns the leopard cub to its mother, and Dranders' gorilla is returned to the wild, which has been redesignated as an animal sanctuary with the help of conservation worker Mr. Geralds.
