The Hot Dog Dog! is the fourth episode of season 2 of Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?, and the thirtieth overall.
Premise[]
A tree monster called the Gnarled One attacks a hot dog eating contest with Joey Chestnut. But the mystery everyone really wants answered is "Who is the best competitive eater?" Is it Joey, Shaggy or Scooby-Doo?
Synopsis []
An announcer for the Eat-ing Sports television show commentates a hot dog eating contest between Joey Chestnut and "Big-Eddy" Eats at Haggerty's Hot-Dog Factory. However, the event is suddenly attacked by tree roots which sprout out of the ground and terrorize the guests, and a tree monster appears. Later, Mystery Inc. arrives at the crime scene to investigate the monster. After giving the group a tour of the family business, the factory owner, Mr. Haggerty, identifies the monster as the Gnarled One, supposedly a cursed tree that sprouted from the ground after it was cut down by settlers.
Mystery Inc. splits up to investigate the monster. Shaggy and Scooby follow a factory worker to a do-over competition between Chestnut and Big Eddy. The round ends with Chestnut defeating Eats, but the referee instead crowns Scooby, who was seen rapidly eating hot dogs while watching the competition. The contest concludes and Scooby claims the Pickle Belt, he suddenly hears a high-pitched sound, and the Gnarled One appears, attacking Mystery Inc. and chasing them.
After escaping the tree, Velma collects a hot dog half-eaten by the Gnarled One as evidence, but Haggerty shuts down the factory due to the attacks. Resuming their investigation, they follow the factory worker to a secret room, but Haggerty stops them from entering as it contained his hot dog recipe's secret ingredient. However, Velma deduces the way the Gnarled One's roots grow; she plays a sound frequency which causes a nearby plant to grow rapidly. Gathering sufficient evidence, Mystery Inc. begins preparing a trap for the monster.
The actor playing the factory's mascot refuses to pose as the trap's bait, so Mystery Inc. decides to instead use Scooby as he strikingly resembles the mascot. Scooby successfully lures the monster into appearing, and Mystery Inc. and Chestnut then attack the monster with the factory equipment. After being doused with mustard and onions, the tree becomes tangled in strings of sausages before finally being captured hanging from a ceiling fan.
The Gnarled One turned out to be Big Eddy Eats, who defeated Chestnut the previous year because he cheated by tricking him into eating a basket load of muffins, but nobody falls for the trick anymore. In order to defend his title, he disguised himself as the monster to destroy the event and prevent Chestnut from beating him. Velma explains that he used an electronic app which played a sound frequency which caused Scooby’s earache and to induce plant growth, causing the roots to grow and attack the event. Also, a half-eaten hot dog with teeth marks on it that matched Eats' dental records. After Eats is handed over to authorities for his crimes, Mr. Haggerty thanks the group for saving his business and Chestnut decides to do another hot dog eating competition at the factory against Scooby. Though he ends up defeating Scooby, the Pickle Belt is instead awarded to Shaggy, who was seen rapidly eating hotdogs while watching the competition.

Animation mistakes and/or technical glitches[]
- During the hot dog eating contest when Scooby-Doo eats hot dogs as a spectator, some hot dogs appear out of nowhere while he eats them.
- Shaggy ripped his shirt but in the next scene it repaired itself.
- An animation error causes "Big Eddy's" name on the scoreboard to keep switching back and forth between having "Big-Eddy" hyphenated and unhyphenated.
Inconsistencies/continuity errors and/or goofs/oddities[]
- Velma explains that Big Eddy uses a sound frequency to induce root growth. While this would explain how the roots grow, it does not explain how he can manipulate the roots to grab its victims.
