Notes/trivia[]
- This episode is filled with jokes (some self-deprecating) about Cass Elliot's weight, which she struggled with throughout her career.
- Cass Elliot passed away on July 29, 1974, roughly nine months after this episode aired, making her the first celebrity guest star who guest-starred as themselves on the series to do so.
- Several times throughout the episode Cass Elliot mentions that she is only eating grapefruit, referencing an unhealthy fad diet that was briefly popular amongst Hollywood stars in the 1930s, and again in the 1970s and 1980s. In fact, at the time of this episode's airing, Elliot was making an effort in losing tremendous weight, which ironically would partly attribute to her early death of a heart attack.
- This episode marks the first time that Shaggy and Scooby appear to lose their appetites, albeit temporarily. This resulted from eating too much candy throughout the episode.
Miscellaneous[]
- "Ruh-roh" count: 1.
- "Jinkies" count: 2.
Animation mistakes and/or technical glitches[]
- When the group is caught in the taffy and Shaggy says, "Let's try running," he speaks with Fred's voice.
- When Cass's dinner first arrived, there was no chocolate syrup on it, but later, it has chocolate syrup.
- Fred, Daphne, and Velma are small enough to stand in the tunnel, yet Cass is big enough for her frame to fill up that same tunnel space. Depending on the size of the tunnel, either could be realistic, but both together make an inconsistent measurement.
- Detective Storm is initially depicted as rather portly at the factory, but then he is drawn significantly slimmer when eating dinner with Cass and the gang.
Inconsistencies/continuity errors and/or goofs/oddities[]

Candy box label with Brazilian address error
- When Velma looks at the Rio de Janeiro address on a box of chocolate bars, it reads "13 Avenida del Sur", which is Spanish for "13 South Avenue", however Portuguese is spoken and used in Brazil. The correct spelling of the address would be "13 Avenida Sul".
- It wasn't explained how Scooby got caught in the purple taffy. In one scene, he's free and then he's caught in the next. He must've gotten stuck in it offscreen.
- The purple taffy continually changes how it holds everyone in (e.g. Fred initially having his leg caught only to have just his shoulders and arms trapped later).
- Wouldn't the gold hidden in the chocolate bars lose value? The villains would have to find a way to extract the gold dust from the chocolate bars.
- Wouldn't the whipped cream, which contains dairy, go sour when it mixes with the citrus acid of the grapefruit?
- The grapefruit diet doesn't consist of eating only grapefruit; proteins and vegetables accompany it for every meal.
- Peanuts and other foods on the floor are a serious hazard of health violations.
- When Cass is at the top window yelling for help, she is yanked back by a pair of hands that turn out to belong to one of the Green Globs. However, she later says that she fell through a trapdoor.
