The Feast of Dr. Frankenfooder! is the sixth episode of season 2 of Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?, and the thirty-second overall.

Premise[]

Shaggy and Scooby do the unexpected, and welcome a visit to a haunted castle in Germany because famous chef Alton Brown will be there. Brown tells them the story of his ancestor, who created a Frankenstein-like food monster - which is still haunting the castle to this day.

Synopsis[]

Shaggy and Scooby navigate as Fred drives the Mystery Machine to a castle in Germany. Having been invited to the castle by a friend for a feast, they express enthusiasm despite travelling through a dark forest. However, upon entering the property, they are greeted by a monster appearing to be made of food, who corners Mystery Inc. However, they are rescued by the castle owner, celebrity chef Alton Brown, who scares the monster away with liquid nitrogen balloons. Brown welcomes Mystery Inc. into the castle.

Brown explains that the castle belonged to his ancestor, Cornelius Frankenfooder. According to Brown, Frankenfooder was a mad food scientist who created a monster from fruits and vegetables, but his castle was destroyed by angry villagers as a result of his creation (though it was later rebuilt). They then meet Mayor Goldgraber, a treasure hunter searching the castle for gold, as well as Brown's producer, Jeanie Jeanington, who expresses desires to retire. Upon further investigating, they find a room whose furniture is covered with white sheets, but the monster suddenly appears and chases them away.

Mystery Inc. escapes the monster, but the monster picks up Brown and jumps out the window with him, disappearing. Further investigating the castle, they find Brown strangely unharmed from the incident, cooking in his kitchen. While Brown cooks, Mystery Inc. finds a man in hysterics hiding inside a cabinet. The man bumps into and knocks over a bookshelf while running away, revealing a hidden cache with Frankenfooder's diary inside. Reading the diary, Mystery Inc. learns that the monster desired another monster to be his wife.

In order to capture the monster, Mystery Inc. decided to have Scooby pose as the monster's wife. They successfully lure the monster into appearing, but the monster throws a liquid nitrogen tank at Brown, freezing him in a thick layer of ice. Scooby lures the monster onto a gurney, which Daphne then raises above the ground. Finally, the monster becomes tangled in the gurney's ropes, and the gurney is finally lowered to the ground to be unmasked.

The monster turned out to be Brown himself. As a publicity stunt to boost his reputation, Brown created the disguise to pose as the descendant of a mad food scientist, fabricating his lineage and the legend of Dr. Frankenfooder. Velma noticed that Frankenfooder's portrait was freshly-painted, and the old wood floors also indicated that the castle was never destroyed and rebuilt. Velma found a genealogy book in the kitchen which confirmed the castle never belonged to a Frankenfooder or Brown lineage. Instead, the castle was owned by the Schmidt family, who secretly lived in the basement while Brown occupied the property. Lastly, Brown faked being thrown out of a window and frozen solid using life-sized puppets of him, which were created by the man hiding in the cabinet, Jude.

Despite deceiving Mystery Inc., Mystery Inc. chooses not to incriminate Brown as he did not commit any crimes as the monster. As an apology, Brown decides to prepare a feast for Mystery Inc. as they were promised. Shaggy and Scooby eat his food but criticize it for its lack of salt.

Cultural references[]

    • Cornelius Frankenfooder, as well as the Frankenfooder Monster, have names based on Dr. Frankenstein, the film's namesake.
    • When Mystery Inc. "creates" a monster, Alton Brown shouts that the monster is alive accompanied by lightning, recreating an iconic scene in that film.

  • Alton Brown throws two liquid nitrogen balloons at the Frankenfooder Monster, causing ice to form where the balloons hit the ground. However, in the next scene, the ice disappears.
  • At one point, Brown uses a blender with its lid off, spilling its contents on the counter. However, in a later shot, no liquid is visible on the counter.
  • Velma says that Brown did not commit any crimes as the Frankenfooder Monster. However, this is not true, as Brown abducted his television producer as part of his scheme.
