The Curse of Half-Beard's Booty is the second half of the twenty-fourth episode of season 2 of Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!, and the fiftieth overall. It was preceded by Pizza O'Possum's.
Premise[]
Cutler returns, much to Fred's chagrin, who apparently needs help finding the lost treasure of the pirate, Half-Beard.
Synopsis[]
Mystery Inc. visits Seems a Little Fishy, a pirate-themed seafood restaurant, where they receive treasure maps as placemats. However, as Fred feels the sudden urge to capture the fugitive Captain Cutler, Cutler suddenly appears in front of them. Fred attempts to apprehend him, but Cutler claims he has changed his ways, buying the restaurant and starting a new, honest life. However, he explains that his restaurant was being attacked by the ghost of Half-Beard, a pirate who died at the hands of Daphne's ancestor, Ginger Fuzz. Fred forms a truce with Cutler to investigate the crimes, but remains distrusting of him.
They split into two groups to investigate. As Fred, Daphne, Velma, and Cutler investigate the docks, they find a scuba diver, Karen, attempting to Cutler's lobsters. Encountering the ghost, they row a boat to escape to a nearby skull-shaped island. Meanwhile Shaggy and Scooby remain at the restaurant, but encounter the ghost. They escape into the restaurant's basement, finding a hidden passageway mapped on their placemat. They follow the passage and reunite with Fred's group on the island.
On the island, Cutler finds a sword belonging to Ginger Fuzz, suggesting Half-Beard's treasure is hidden on the island. Discovering that Shaggy's placemat map contained coordinates to the treasure, they locate it at the bottom of a very deep pool. Fred reluctantly trusts Cutler to dive to the bottom of the pool to retrieve it. However, as Cutler resurfaces with the treasure, the ghost appears as well. Daphne disguises himself as Ginger Fuzz and challenges the ghost to a sword fight. Though the ghost overpowers Daphne, Cutler knocks him out with his helmet. They are then free to unmask the ghost.
The ghost is revealed to be Karen, who used the disguise to search for the treasure. However, Cutler suddenly disappears, leaving behind a letter admitting he masterminded the entire crime. He used the ghost disguise to trick Mystery Inc., especially Fred, into helping him locate the treasure, luring them to the seafood restaurant closest to the treasure. He promised Karen half the treasure to pose as the ghost, and the other half to the restaurant's real owner, Oft-Injured Willy, to temporarily use the restaurant. Fred curses Cutler's name as he escapes on an airplane.

Continuity[]
- This episode shows many flashbacks from previous episodes in which Captain Cutler appeared, including:
- The capture of Space Kook in In Space.
- The courthouse jury scene in The People vs. Fred Jones.
- The desert scene in Ghost in the Mystery Machine.
Notes/trivia[]
- This was aired in a death slot on Boomerang in the United States.
- The Curse of Half-Beard's Booty was the last episode to air, despite Professor Huh? Part 1 and Professor Huh? Part 6 3/4 being written as the finale.
- This episode, along with Pizza O'Possum's, were a test for a potential season 3 set up, with Jeff Mednikow given creative control over them. In doing so, story editor, Jon Colton Barry, found them to be too off-model and does not consider them to be canon.
Miscellaneous[]
- Disguises: None.
- Traps: None.
- Clues: Ginger Fuzz's sword and bag.
Cultural references[]
- Half-Beard is likely based on historical pirates Blackbeard (Edward Teach) and Redbeard (Hayreddin Barbaross).
Animation mistakes and/or technical glitches[]
- None known.
Inconsistencies/continuity errors and/or goofs/oddities[]
- This episode brings Cutler back more in-line with his original incarnation in Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, but now conflicts with how he was originally called Dr. Cutler (although the credits in Game of Chicken still called him Captain Cutler), portrayed as a recurring gag, who wore a brown/yellow diving suit. His voice is also different, this time being voiced by Jeff Bennett, instead of Matthew Lillard.
- Fred suddenly has a problem with Cutler, even letting him take the blame for what Space Kook did in In Space, when it was not technically the alien, but Officer Soung, who was in the guise of the alien. Cutler also referred to the alien as the Red Skull, despite never being named as such.
