Powers and abilities
The original version only had the ability to swim through tar, which was because it had a diving suit underneath. The real monster version envelops its victims in in its fluid tar body and either constricts or suffocates them.

Stoner wanted to scare people away so he could have the treasure of a lost city for himself.
Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase
The last level of Eric Staufer's video game, which the gang had been sent to, featured a cyber version of the Tar Monster, among other old monsters the gang had captured in the past, who were all crooks in real life, but were real in the video game.[1]
