Spencer Johnson is the true identity of Rama Yam, the hippie organizer of a sandcastle competition. He kidnapped the builders and forced them to dig a highway under the Great Barrier Reef. His activity disturbed a coral creature from the deep sea, which also attacked beachgoers.

Physical appearance[]

Spencer Johnson is a thin Australian man with short brown hair. While posing as Rama Yam, he wore a wig and fake beard, as well as a red, purple, and blue loose-fitting robe. He also wore baggy, light beige pants, sandals, and a hexagonal medallion around his neck with Sanskrit characters etched into it. When pretending to be hypnotized, he, like the other teenagers, appeared covered in mud.

Personality[]

While posing as Rama Yam, he appeared as a stereotypical hippie guru, showing spiritualism and keeping a Hindu medallion around his neck for spiritual reasons. He speaks in a calm and pacifist tone, trying to de-escalate a conflict between the sandcastle builders and Smash Mouth, but still showed concern for his fellow sandcastle builders when they were abducted. He spoke in an Australian accent.

However, when Mystery Inc. discovered Johnson's true identity, he was revealed to be a scandalous criminal who used his event to attract victims. He claims his actions were for the greater good of mankind, as he ultimately served the interests of his country rather than his own; he claimed his construction project would be the "ninth wonder of the world." However, nevertheless committed several crimes to make this possible, including the abduction, hypnotism, and enslavement of countless teenagers. Velma pointed out his wild ambitions, calling him "insane but ingenius."

Season three[]

Spencer Johnson posed as Rama Yam, a hippie guru who organized a sandcastle-building contest on a beach to attract teenage builders. He would kidnap the builders by pulling them under the sand, hypnotize them with a medallion, and enslave them into digging an underground tunnel. He intended to build the "Reefway," a highway under the Great Barrier Reef connecting Australia to New Guinea. The construction activity in the reef disturbed an undiscovered coral creature from the deep sea, who emerged out of the water and also began attacking beachgoers. Mystery Inc. investigated the monster assuming it was connected to the abductions.

During a coral creature attack, Mystery Inc. rescued Johnson as Rama Yam, who claimed to have been attacked by the creature. However, Yam appeared to be abducted himself, being pulled under the sand. Later, when Shaggy and Scooby were also kidnapped, they found Rama Yam among the enslaved teenagers digging the tunnel. However, when Mystery Inc. arrived at the cave, the teenagers began chasing them. This caused the tunnel to cave in and flood. As Rama Yam commanded the other teenagers to safety, Velma discovered he was not entranced like them and therefore must be the culprit. Though the coral creature rescued Scooby, Rama Yam later survived the flood and returned to the beach. However, Mystery Inc. discovered his true identity, removing his wig and fake beard, and exposed him for his crimes.
