Greg and his buddies wore the costumes during the night of their diamond thefts.
They were encountered by Shag and Scooby who had ran from a chaotic mess with skull heads and sword wielders running around. Shaggy notices that their fake, but the flashlight he was using at the moment made a robot elephant skeleton hybrid go mad and attack, causing everyone to scatter.

Greg unmasked.
One of them got launched directly towards the rest of the gang and was unmasked revealing it to be Greg, a wildlife expert who used undead related things to scare people away from the Skeleton Coast to steal diamonds.
