Scoobypedia

Six is a Crowd is the first of two stories in Scooby-Doo #10, by DC Comics. It was followed by Shaggy's Sasquatch Search!

Premise[]

Mystery Inc. acts as guests of honor at Sleuthcon, where a lottery is held in which the winner will get to be an honorary member of Mystery Inc. for a day. The winner, obnoxious fanboy Evander Cranapple, tries to help Mystery Inc. investigate a cursed falcon attacking the convention.

Synopsis[]

Mystery Inc. attends Sleuthcon, where Daphne's father offers a raffle winner an honorary spot in Mystery Inc. During the prize draw, a memorabilia vendor in the crowd, Ellen Phibbs, raises concerns about the curse of Archer Hammond supposedly plaguing the convention. Daphne's father announces the winner, obsessive fan Evander Cranapple, but the Flatbush Falcon, part of Hammond's curse, suddenly appears and attacks the audience, and when it disappears, a Sherlock Holmes pipe is stolen from Phibbs' booth.

For winning the contest, Cranapple is allowed to work with Mystery Inc. on one case, but Cranapple seeks to prove himself worthy of becoming a permanent member. Cranapple first accompanies Shaggy and Scooby, where he attempts to imitate Shaggy, but they see the falcon in a closet and run away. Reuniting with Fred's group, they return to the scene, finding the inactive falcon prop. However, Cranapple imitates Fred and makes a flawed conclusion, mistaking a bag of Scooby Snacks he left behind for a clue.

They find a control room with a camera projector, which would allow the culprit to project the falcon into the event area. However, the culprit suddenly turns out the lights, slams the door, and steals the falcon prop. Mystery Inc. finds bootprints. They follow the bootprints, but Daphne's father suddenly disqualifies Cranapple for making a romantic advance towards Daphne, removing him from the group. As Cranapple walks away, he finds the culprit wearing the boots.

The falcon suddenly attacks Mystery Inc., but trips and exposing himself as Cranapple. The original perpetrator was Phibbs, who faked the attacks and the theft to raise the prices on her merchandise. However, when Cranapple solved the mystery, he stole the costume, used it to attack Mystery Inc., and locked Phibbs in a closet, where a security guard later found her. Cranapple wanted to be involved with Mystery Inc. so desperately he became the criminal to be unmasked. As both Pibbs and Cranapple are handed to authorities, Daphne's father draws the next contest winner, a cat named Bootsie.
