Shags to Riches is the first episode of the first season of Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue!
Premise[]
Shaggy's uncle disappears, leaving him all his money and his lavish mansion. While exploring, Shaggy and Scooby find a message from Uncle Albert explaining that he went into hiding because a Dr. Phineus Phibes, Shaggleford's rival, is after his latest invention. Now Shaggy and Scooby must solve this mystery before it's too late for his uncle.
Synopsis[]
Shaggy and Scooby live together in an ordinary house, but Shaggy receives a call informing him that his uncle, Albert Shaggleford, disappeared, leaving him all his wealth. They immediately move into Albert's mansion, complete with a robotic servant. After briefly relaxing in the mansion, they discover a hidden passageway behind a bookshelf leading them into a secret laboratory, where Albert kept all his inventions. They find a written message from Albert, stating he had invented "nanotechnology," an invention that gave its user transformative powers. Albert explains he is in hiding because thieves are pursuing his invention.
Meanwhile, Dr. Phineas Phibes, a megalomaniac villain, expresses his plans to steal the formula for Albert's invention. He sends his operatives, numbered Agents 1 and 2, to the mansion to steal the formula. While Shaggy and Scooby makes Scooby Snacks in the kitchen, the agents break into the mansion. They chase Shaggy and Scooby to the laboratory, where Shaggy and Scooby attempt to stop them with Albert's shrink ray but are ultimately captured.
The agents bring Shaggy and Scooby to Phibes' submarine, where Phibes, accompanied by assistant Dr. Trebla, demands the formula, despite them not having it. Shaggy gives him a fake formula, and Phibes prepares to release them as promised, but seals them in the submarine's balance chamber until he could verify the formula. Phibes orders the submarine prepare to dive, which would fill the chamber with water and drown Shaggy and Scooby.
While in the chamber, Shaggy and Scooby discover the Scooby Snacks in their pockets contain Albert's formula. Scooby eats a Scooby Snack and gains the power, turning invisible. Pretending to be a ghost, he attacks and scares the agents, chasing them away. The formula wears off as soon as Scooby belches, but he and Shaggy are able to subdue the remaining guards and take an escape pod. Phibes sees them escape and realizes that the recipe Shaggy gave him was fake as a shark swallows the submarine whole. Meanwhile, Shaggy and Scooby reunite with Fred, Daphne, and Velma at a cafe.

Notes/trivia[]
- This is the first episode of a Scooby-Doo series to have the title card at the beginning of the end credits, which was common at the time for WBA shows, such as The Batman.
- The episode's title is play on the phrase "rags to riches," referring to a person's rise from poverty to wealth.
- While most of the cast return to reprise their roles from the previous series, What's New, Scooby-Doo?, Casey Kasem has been replaced by Scott Menville as Shaggy. Instead, Kasem voices Shaggy's uncle from the next episode onwards. Despite this, Kasem still continued to voice Shaggy in the DTVs that ran during and after this series.
- The month on Shaggy's calendar in the kitchen from his home he lived in before moving into the mansion was January.
