Norville "Shaggy" Rogers is the owner and best friend of Scooby-Doo, and a member of Mystery Incorporated.

Physical appearance[]

Shaggy is a tall and thin twenty-something year old man with medium-length, dusty brown hair, blue eyes and sports a goatee. He is always wearing a green v neck t-shirt, brown bell bottom pants, and dark brown shoes. When the gang come back to Coolsville after the Spooky Island case, he wears a white undershirt with the logo of the gang's name down the sleeve.

Personality[]

His best friend in life is Scooby, an anthropomorphic Great Dane. They share the same interests, especially when it comes to food and being cowards during cases. They often have to be bribed which involves being rewarded a Scooby Snack to participate in solving the mystery and for being bait. In spite of their cowardice, they try to make the best of their situation and end up having some fun as well.

Another strong quality in Shaggy, is his loyalty to the gang. After a fight broke out among Fred Jones, Velma Dinkley and Daphne Blake, he attempted to keep them together by raising their spirits, but only made them quit, albeit indirectly. He and Scooby were left heart-broken. They then didn't see each other for the next two years until they were independently invited to solve a case at Spooky Island. Fred, Velma and Daphne almost didn't go when they couldn't get along at the airport, but managed to talk them into going. He made attempts at a high five with the gang which didn't come off until Scooby needed saving, and they managed to work out their differences.

History[]

Early life[]

Shaggy grew up with the rest of the gang in Coolsville,[1] attending Coolsville High together.[2] He spent at least one year in college.[1]

In their travels, they gained another member in Scooby's nephew, Scrappy-Doo, until they got sick of him and left him in the middle of the desert.[2]

Scooby-Doo (film)[]

The gang were hired to catch the Luna Ghost at the Wow-O Toy Factory. After the case was solved, Fred took credit in front of the press, which upset Velma so she quit the group, as did Fred and Daphne, leaving Shaggy and Scooby alone with the Mystery Machine. Shaggy told Scooby it would just be the two of them for a while.

They spent the next two years living in the Mystery Machine at the beach. Their paradise ended when they both were invited to solve a case at the Spooky Island amusement park. At first they turned down the messenger down even when he offered free room and board, and a vast amount of cash. Only when they were offered an all-you-can-eat meal did they accept.

While at the airport, he ran into the other members of the gang who had been invited and talked them into staying. He also had to disguise Scooby as his grandma because big dogs weren't allowed to board entry.[2]

Shaggy was on a date with MJ when he is interrupted by Scooby who warns him about his encounter with a monster however having no evidence... they rule out the possibility that they exist, Mary Jane thanks Shaggy and returns to the hotel, Daphne appears on the scene looking for them because she needs their help. Daphne guides Shaggy and Scooby to the entrance of the old Spooky Island's Castle, when Daphne arrives she asks them to enter there to which they both refuse until she convinces them by offering them Scooby Snax once inside they meet Fred and Velma even though they are still upset Daphne looks for a clues alone while Fred teams up with Velma and Shaggy and Scooby are sent to a corridor who leads them to a set with the appearance of a kitchen after being attacked by the sudden activation of the haunted castle both discover a hidden section with assembly provided with cameras and microphones. Eventually Shaggy is distracted by Scooby's fault starting a gas competition Daphne finds them and faced with the uncomfortable situation they are all forced to run after an alarm sounds and are almost caught stealing the Daemon Ritus.

Mystery Inc. arrives at the hotel trying to investigate the strange artifact they found but before they could do so they are attacked again by creatures of disturbing appearance which proceed to kidnap the tourists present so the gang separates Fred and Velma are captured while Daphne, Scooby, MJ and Shaggy manage to escape Shaggy was very scared and wanted to leave Spooky Island but MJ manages to convince him to call the coast guard for help they decide to hide until the next morning. After taking refuge in the dock of the island they notice that everything seems to have returned to calm there is no trace of the creatures anywhere and "apparently" all the tourists that were captured are safe and sound celebrating a party in broad daylight Daphne assumes leadership of the team MJ gets separated from the team because he needs some things he left at the resort, Shaggy and Scooby are sent to look for Fred while Daphne looks for Velma.

Shaggy and Scooby discover that Fred was possessed, he chases them and during the escape they found it MJ who to Scooby's dismay is not who he says she is, so he tries to warn Shaggy but he doesn't believe him and they fight Scooby falls into a fake trap and shaggy decides to help him, much to MJ's surprise.

Shaggy falls through a passageway that leads him to an underground cavern where he finds a cauldron full of protoplasms extracted from tourists Velma leads shaggy with her voice who rescues her allowing her to recover her body also saves Fred and Daphne [ despite their refusal to save herself ] Shaggy then steals the Daemon Ritus to show it to his friends.

Shaggy later reunites with Mystery Inc. he discovers that Fred and Daphne bodies switched to fix the problem he decides to use the Daemon Ritus exposing them all to this artifact this unexpectedly extracts Shaggy's protoplasm and the others their bodies remain stunned and inanimate while the gang's protoplasms are randomly relocated; Shaggy's protoplasm is deposited on Velma's body confused by entering a girl's body at the same time he tries to understand his strange condition, Shaggy also discovers that his protoplasm is incompatible with Daphne's body after another body swap and they finally return to normal with the information of master vodoo the gang learns about Scooby's whereabouts as well as the beginning of the ritual Darkopolips Shaggy convinces the team to save him.

During the final battle Shaggy rescues Scooby personally after both try to hide from Scrappy Rex when they are stopped by a possessed MJ. Daphne defeats Zarko just in time by freeing the potoplasms from captivity and exposing the creatures to the sun Shaggy defeats Scrappy rex weakening it after separating it from the Daemon Ritus that had merged with it. MJ appears after returning to normal and the three become friends Shaggy also frees the "real" Emile Mondavarious who was locked inside a hatch in the cavern later Scrappy and his henchmen they are arrested by the police and the gang celebrates their triumph.
