As part of his plot to find pirate Half-Beard's treasure, Captain Cutler worked with the restaurant's owner, Oft-Injured Willy, as it was the closest restaurant to the treasure. He promised Willy half the treasure to pose as the restaurant's owner, lure Mystery Inc. to the restaurant, and trick them into finding the treasure. He claimed to Mystery Inc. that Half-Beard's ghost had been terrorizing his restaurant, which prompted Mystery Inc. to investigate the attacks. The ghost then chased them towards the treasure in Double-Cross Cove.
