Screama Donna is the ninth episode of season 1 of Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!.
Premise[]
The gang pretends to be a rock band to investigate a ghostly performer haunting her former venue.
Synopsis[]
The gang visits the Star Music Hall to see Bones Malone at his concert. However, the concert hall's owner, Bond Kuro, explains that tickets have already sold out, but she may have to cancel the concert as a ghost scared away the opening act. To access the venue, Fred offers to replace them as their opening act, branding the gang as a band named the Mystery Machine. Bones Malone arrives at the concert hall with his manager, Jasper Crawl, who is very protective of Malone. As the sound technician, Gus, calls the gang to sound check, they assign each other instruments, but Velma, the only member who does not play an instrument, is forced to be the lead vocalist. However, the ghost appears and interrupts the sound check.
After escaping the ghost, Velma identifies the ghost as that of singer Cassandra Tildon, dubbed the "Prima Donna" due to her ego. They split up to investigate; Fred, Velma, and Daphne visit Kuro at her office, where she explains that the concert hall would fail without the charity concert. Meanwhile, Shaggy and Scooby visit the dressing room for food but find Malone there. Malone explains that Crawl has been extremely controlling over his public image, controlling the songs he performed, portraying him as a recluse, and forcing him to sing into a voice-changing microphone during performances. Shaggy and Scooby encourage him to confront his manager and perform as his authentic self.
During his sound check, Malone performs a new song dedicated to Shaggy and Scooby, disobeying his manager. However, the ghost interrupts his sound check, chasing the gang away as they watch the sound check. After escaping to Kuro's office, they find a contract showing that Malone intended to fire Crawl as his manager and hire Kuro in his place. Gathering sufficient evidence to determine the culprit, they prepare to go onstage to capture the monster during their performance.
As the Mystery Machine debuts onstage, the ghost immediately appears to interrupt the performance. Shaggy and Scooby attempt to subdue the monster with swinging sandbags, but the sandbags miss and the ghost advances towards Velma. However, Fred throws the bass drum from his drumkit at the ghost, capturing it inside the drum. Police officers arrive onstage to arrest the culprit.
The ghost is revealed to be Jasper Crawl, and Velma explains his motives to the crowd in song. Crawl used the disguise as revenge against Malone for planning to fire him. He used the voice-changing microphone to create the ghost's signature scream and used stage rigging to simulate flight. Velma concludes her song with Malone, Kuro, and Gus.

Notes/trivia[]
- In original drafts, the opening band was called Crossbones.[2]
- Shaggy comments, upon picking up an electric guitar and playing it, that he thought they were in a band and that was why they traveled around in a van. This reflects the original, abandoned, concept for Mystery Inc. in Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!.
- Daphne took piano lessons for ten years.
- Neither of the two songs are credited.
Miscellaneous[]
- Disguises: Scooby-Doo and Shaggy as panther control officers, but this is to get food, not to avoid the monster.
- Traps: Shaggy and Scooby hit the ghost with swinging sandbags (failed); Fred throws a bass drum at the ghost (succeeded).
- Clues: Bones Malone's microphone and his contract with Bond Kuro.
- Daphne Du Jour: Playing an instrument after someone has said something.
- "Zoinks" count: 1.
Cultural references[]
- The episode title is a play on the term "prima donna," referring to the leading lady in an opera.
- Bones Malone may be named after Tom "Bones" Malone, a jazz musician and a member of the Blues Brothers band.
- In one scene, Fred looks at signs around him for band name ideas. Each sign alludes to a real-world band.
- The Maroon Avenue and 5th Street crossroad signs refer to Maroon 5.
- The Tim Beedle's Jewelry Shop logo in a window is stylized like the logo for Beatles.
- The Roland Stones campaign billboard refers to the Rolling Stones.
Animation mistakes and/or technical glitches[]
- "This Is How You Solve The Mystery" starts with a bass intro, but Shaggy is shown playing instead of Scooby.
Inconsistencies/continuity errors and/or goofs/oddities[]
- The Ghost of the Prima Donna is credited as "Screama Donna", matching the name of the episode.
