Scooby-Doo and the Conjuror's Conundrum is the single story of Scooby-Doo! Team-Up #19, by DC Comics.
Premise[]
Zatanna needs the help of the detectives to help find her missing father.
Synopsis[]
Shaggy and Scooby are used as participants in Zatanna Zatara's magic show, as they were sawed in half and switched around. However, the show was not just for fun, as Mystery Inc. was asked for by Zatanna because her father had disappear. Zatanna couldn't find him with her magic, as he was magically shielded from her. So, Zatanna went for other magic users for help. Zatanna and Mystery Inc. went to Doctor Fate for help, but the Helmet of Nabu had been stolen from him. She then went to others for help, but they were in similar situations. Sargon the Sorceror's Ruby of Life was stolen, as was Ibis the Invincible's Ibistick, and El Carim's Hypnotic Monacle.
They then went to other magical heroes for help, but received none from Baron Winters, Prince Ra-Man, Traci Thirteen, Black Alice, and Warlock the Wizard (while Zatanna refused to try for help from John Constantine). They then went for help from magical villains, but got no help from Tigress, Felix Faust, Wotan, the Demons Three, Kulak, Klarion the Witch Boy, the Wizard, Blue Lama, and the Warlock of Ys. Eventually, Zatanna gave up on magical help, and turned to Velma's detective instincts. They learned throughout their quest that magical artifacts of older magical heroes had been stolen, as had Zatara. Velma then had a realization: she had seen Sargon's missing ruby.
It was at the Mystic Mansion, where Zatanna had performed earlier that night. The owner, Mel Magnus, had first stolen the ruby, and then summoned the remainder of the missing artifacts. He then attacked the gang with the furniture, which Zatanna turned into feathers. They followed, and Magnus revealed that he had kidnapped Zatara because he had no magical artifact of his own. Magnus then donned the stolen artifacts and attacked. Zatanna used her magic to cause the icons to leave Magnus, sending the Helm of Nabu onto Scooby's head, possessing him. Fred easily takes the helmet off of Scooby's head, Velma handcuffs Magnus, and Zatanna freed her father.

Notes/trivia[]
- The "British guy in the rumpled trenchcoat" Fred mentions is very likely John Constantine, a mystical antihero/part-time occult detective of the DC universe. Zatanna doesn't wish to talk about him, likely an allusion to their ill-fated (and complicated) past romance.
- The story premise references Zatanna's original storyline when she debuted in DC Comics in 1964, which also involved a mission to find her missing father.
