Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? is the thirteenth incarnation of the Scooby-Doo franchise, originally produced by Hanna-Barbera. The series is somewhat of a revival of The New Scooby-Doo Movies that ran from 1972-1973. It is produced by Warner Bros. Animation, and began streaming on the Boomerang VSOD service on June 27, 2019.
On September 29, 2021, it was announced the series would move to HBO Max and the remaining second season episodes would be released on October 1, 2021.[1]
Overview[]
Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? focuses on the Mystery Inc. gang as they solve mysteries, largely preserving the formula and comedic tone of older series such as Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!. As such, the members of Mystery Inc. are seen in their original outfits, and their personalities remain largely the same as they were in the original series. However, some minor changes are made, such as the addition of Fred's catchphrase "Hold the phone" and the removal of Daphne's "damsel-in-distress" trope.
Just like The New Scooby-Doo Movies, each episode stars a particular celebrity guest star or cartoon character. Guest stars for the first season included Chris Paul, Sia, Halsey, Ricky Gervais, Kenan Thompson, Bill Nye, Neil deGrasse Tyson and Mark Hamill, along with fictional characters such as Steve Urkel, Batman, Sherlock Holmes, The Flash and Wonder Woman.[2] The second season featured Cher, Carol Burnett, Jason Sudekis, Gigi Hadid, and Morgan Freeman.
In addition, most, but not all, episodes are set in a particular city around the world, just like in What's New, Scooby Doo?. As such, some cultural elements from the particular country may occasionally appear in the storyline, such as the mention of Shinto god Inari Okami when Mystery Inc. visited Japan.
There is no overarching storyline uniting all episodes, but the episodes are clearly in order as some episodes may make references to previous episodes.

Production[]
The show was first leaked in a social media announcement by Matthew Lillard on July 19, 2017[3], and announced on May 2018.[2] It is produced by Chris Bailey, who worked on Disney's Kim Possible. On Facebook, he unofficially announced season two was in production by requesting new animators.
Notes/Trivia[]
- This is the first show to be announced to premiere on Boomerang's streaming service.
- The series is both homage to Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! and The New Scooby-Doo Movies, and a sequel of sorts to the latter, although it doesn't always follow the continuity strictly. For instance, it ignores the previous encounter of Batman, but then refers back to the past encounters with Sandy Duncan and Cher.
- Amongst the potential guest stars who were approached, but ultimately unable, to appear on the series were Mel Brooks[4] and Dolly Parton[5].
- The episode I Put a Hex on You! originally featured the band KISS as guest stars, but this was changed late in production.[4]
