Scooby-Doo! The Thanksgiving Mystery is the seventeenth children's book by Scholastic in the Scooby-Doo Readers series.
Premise[]
The gang heads to a farm to pick vegetables for their Thanksgiving dinner, but panic takes over Shaggy and Scooby when it seems that the rest of the gang has turned into pumpkin-headed monsters.
Synopsis[]
It's Thanksgiving and the gang is driving down a country road on their way to Farmer Green's farm to pick vegetables to make a delicious Thanksgiving dinner. After getting to the farm Shaggy and Scooby are not too eager to pick vegetables. They suggest going to a pizza place and also participating in a pumpkin pie eating contest across the farm that was advertised on a sign.
Nonetheless, the whole gang begins to pick vegetables. But after five minutes Shaggy and Scooby are tired of picking vegetables. But when they both turn around a pumpkin-headed monster wearing a red skirt and orange sweater has replaced Velma. Shaggy and Scooby run away in horror to Fred and Daphne, but they too have been replaced with pumpkin-headed counterparts. Shaggy and Scooby, terrified out of their wits, run away from the pumpkin-headed monsters and end up getting tangled in pumpkin vines when they run through the pumpkin patch. Shaggy and Scooby even get pumpkins stuck on their heads and believe that they too have been turned into pumpkin-headed monsters.
Scooby and Shaggy then tumble down a hill and into the pumpkin pie eating contest. Out of hunger they eat all the pumpkin pies they can. They then get applauded by a crowd of people including the gang who are not pumpkin-headed monsters. Velma then explains to them that the reason it looked like they had turned into pumpkin-headed monsters was because Shaggy and Scooby just didn't see them before and when they turned around the monsters were there but the gang had left.
Scooby and shaggy then get one last scare when Farmer Green walks in with a giant pumpkin in front of him as Scooby and Shaggy's reward for the pie eating contest. But by the time Daphne explains it to them they have already run out the door and down the street to the local pizza place where they finally have their Thanksgiving dinner.

Notes/trivia[]
- The town they are in appears to be a taiga/coniferous forest due to its very mountainous area and hills throughout the book specifically the snowcapped mountains on page 31. In addition to that, there are pine trees spotted all throughout the book.
Miscellaneous[]
- "Zoinks" count: 1
- Shaggy's "Like" count: 3
Inconsistencies/continuity errors and/or goofs/oddities[]
- Shaggy and Scooby tumble down the hill and somehow crash into the table inside of the farmhouse despite the fact that the door is open and they are coming from outside.
- Although the full layout of the farmhouse's room is never explicitly shown, the yellow and blue plates hung on the wall originally seen on page 25 seem to change places when they are shown on page 26.
- When Velma explains that the Pumpkin-heads were always there, she never explains why the pumpkin-heads were dressed just like the gang was. This leads us to believe that Farmer Green made pumpkin sculptures that look like the gang before they even came there.
