Scooby-Doo! The Haunted Carnival is a children's book published by Turner Publishing as part of the Cartoon Classics line of books in 1995.

Premise[]

The gang help a couple whose carnival is haunted by a phantom.

Synopsis[]

Taking a break from detective work one summer day, the gang travel to a carnival. Shaggy, Scooby and Scrappy hop on a roller coaster, after grabbing hotdogs, only for the attendant to disappear just as they speed towards a curve. Luckily, Scrappy jumps from their car, climbs down and pulls the lever to stop them. At the same time, Daphne, Velma and Fred play carnival games, but when Velma pops a balloon with a dart and paint splatters out everywhere, including Daphne's dress, they're surprised to discover the booth attendant's gone.

Feeling something strange is going on, they sit to watch a sword-swallowing act by the carnival owners, Mr. and Mrs. Gullet. However, the show's interrupted by the Phantom of the Carnival, who scares away the guests. Vowing to help, Mystery Inc. takes the case, and when a noise is heard inside the Hall of Mirrors, they rush to investigate.

Spotting the Phantom inside, Scrappy charges at him, only to run face first into a mirror. Frightened, Scooby crouches and covers his head, only for the Phantom to trip over him and be unmasked to reveal Scotty, the carnival employee who had been running the roller coaster and dart game booth. He tells the couple that he'd wanted to scare everyone away so that they'd sell the carnival to him.
