Synopsis[]
A man is giving people a tour through a swamp, he then shows the tourist some swamp peppers which are the hottest peppers in the world and the main ingredient for his hot sauce recipe. One of the tourists denies it, so the tour guide gets him try one of the peppers. Suddenly, a Swamp Monster appears from behind the river boat and the tourist tries to warn the tour guide, but he thinks that tourist is overreacting the the hot pepper. Until the tour guide and the rest of the tourists see the monster.
The gang is eating at a restaurant in the swamp, where Daphne is pretending to be a vampire, because they're in New Orleans. The Gang then gets their food from a waiter named Dwayne who also presents them with many bottles of hot sauce. Velma denies the hot sauce because of her body's low spice tolerance. Shaggy and Scooby then have a hot sauce eating contest which ends in a tie and they both run off to find water. A man named Bayou Pierre then arrives and introduces himself to the Gang, he reveals that he runs the establishment and says that business is slow since the Swamp Monster arrived. Fred volunteers for the Gang to solve the mystery but Bayou Pierre claims there's no need because Chomps the alligator is on the case. He claims that Chomps is a crime fighting alligator who foiled a bunch of criminals like the Gentleman Bandit. Fred tries to convince Bayou Pierre that he and the Gang are better but he insist that Chomps is Better. Velma then questions Bayou Pierre about the Swamp Monster attacking people for going in the swamp, because Shaggy and Scooby ran into the swamp.
Shaggy and Scooby have cooled down from the hot sauce and decide to go back to the restaurant for more. When suddenly the Swamp Monster appears and chases after them. They manage to hide in a bush, but just when the Swamp Monster is about to get them. They trick the Swamp Monster by pretending to be New Orleans parade musicians. They manage to escape, but when the monster realizes it had been tricked it roars in anger. Back at the restaurant Fred, Velma, and Daphne are looking for Shaggy and Scooby when they suddenly run right past them and under a table. They tell the others about the Swamp Monsters and Fred decided to rent a riverboat to search the swamp in order to find clues. When Daphne mentions the dangerous creatures of the swamp including bats, she become excited because she believe she summoned them. But Velma thinks that something spooked them. Suddenly, the Swamp Monster flips the boat and attacks the Gang.
The Gang swims to shore and splits up with the Swamp Monster chasing Shaggy and Scooby. They end up getting stuck in a log and roll down a hill breaking the log into two. They manage to jump back into the riverboat with and rest of the Gang and escape the Swamp Monster. Daphne talks about the a dark theory about the Swamp Monster which scares Shaggy and Scooby. Then Bayou Pierre claims that Chomps is on the case, but Fred claims he's just floating. Suddenly the riverboat stops and the Gang discovers a boating winch, which Bayou Pierre tries to give Chomps the credit for finding it, much to Fred's annoyance. This leads to a fight between Fred and Daphne which Velma breaks off. Bayou Pierre claims he can repair the riverboat in half an hour. When Velma asks who lives in a swamp Bayou Pierre point out the Hermit Hanks lives here. Fred decides to asks Hermit Hank some questions about the Swamp Monsters but Bayou Pierre insists they leave it to Chomps. However, Fred goes on to Hermit Hank's house anyway.
Hermit Hank appears and claims that the Gang are trespassers, he also claims that the swamp is getting over crowded with Bayou Pierre's swamp tour, the Gentleman Bandit, Swamp Monster, and now the Gang. When Velma asks about the Gentleman Bandit Hermit Hank reveals that the bandit stole an armored bank car but Chomps managed to get rid of him. Velma then asks about the Swamp Monster but Hermit Hanks refuses to say anything else, so Daphne tries to hypnotize Hermit Hank into talking about the Swamp Monster. But Hermit Hank likes Daphne so much for being weird like him that he decides to tell the Gang anything her knows if they pass a little test. If the Gang can handle the heat of his homemade hot sauce then he will tell them anything. However, Hermit Hank's hot sauce is so hot that one drop from a toothpick is too hot for them to handle. However Velma is able to handle it, surprising Hermit Hank and passes his test, Hermit Hanks reveals to the Gang that the Swamp Monster only attacks at night then asks them to get off his property.
Back at the restaurant, Velma reveals that she never tasted Hermit Hank's hot sauce because she flipped her tooth pick around. Chomps then arrives, much to Fred's annoyance and Velma notices something in his mouth. Fred tries to get the clue in Chomps' mouth but he swims away, so Fred wrestles him. Chomps wins but Fred managed to get the thing in his mouth which is a ring. Velma notices that the ring is engraved to Kingston University, Bayou Pierre then arrives and states it looks familiar. He asks Dwyane if the ring is his which he replies yes, but Velma just takes the ring to hold on for now. Velma claims that Dwayne is not Kingston material, but then growling noises are heard. Velma thinks it's from Shaggy and Scooby's stomachs but they claim it's not. Suddenly the Swamp Monster appears out of the swamp.
A musical chases scene occurs throughout New Orleans, in the end the Gang regroup back at the restaurant where Bayou Pierre is ready to sell the place. The Gang laments on their failures, but Daphne manages to cheer everyone up with her vampire talk. With that the Gang is now inspired to catch the Swamp Monster. Shaggy and Scooby are out in the swamp being bait by pretending to be fishermen, which Scooby doesn't even notice. The Swamp Monster appears and chase them to some bushes where Fred, Daphne, and Velma spray him with hot sauce. The Swamp Monster tries to escape but trips and gets captured by Chomps. Bayou Pierre and the townsfolk arrive praising that Gang for catching the Swamp Monster. But Velma reveals that the Swamp Monster is actually Dwayne who is also the Gentlemen Bandit.
Dwyane wanted to scare everyone out of the swamp because he was after the armored car he stole as the Gentlemen Bandit. When Chomps foiled Dwayne's getaway the armored car loaded with money became submerged in the swamp. Dwayne needed time to recover the money but he could only work at night, the only problem was that's when Bayou Pierre ran his swamp tours, so the Swamp Monster was born. Dwayne had come to town and got a job working with Bayou Pierre as the perfect cover while he planned his bank robbery. Velma realized Dwayne wasn't what he seemed when Pierre thought the Kingston University ring belonged to Dwayne, the same ring he lost at the night of the robbery. Dwayne wasn't Kingston material, but the Gentlemen Bandit was exactly the kind of high society type that would be a Kingston alumnus. As Dwayne is being taken away by the police he claims he wouldn't gotten away with it if it wasn't for Chomps, but Fred tries to point out that is was them that stopped him. Bayou Pierre and the townsfolk praise Chomp for solving the mystery despite Fred's protests. Velma states that Chomps did an impressive job which Shaggy and Scooby agree. Fred then wonders why he risks his neck then stops Daphne who was about to bite his neck.
