Safety Springs is a ghost town in the United States. It was abandoned after Happy Sunshine Chemicals, a chemical plant specializing in food preservatives, suffered a meltdown, polluting the town with toxic chemicals.

History[]

Early history[]

Safety Springs in the past

Safety Springs before it was contaminated.

Safety Springs was the location of the Happy Sunshine Chemicals factory, a factory specializing in food preservatives. However, in 1955, the chemical factory suffered a meltdown caused by an experimental chemical, flooding the town with toxic chemicals. The townspeople were forced to evacuate, and the town was abandoned and has since been gated off.

Be Cool, Scooby-Doo![]

Season one[]

Over sixty years after the meltdown, district attorney Dayton Knight learned the town was safe to enter as the chemicals had long since dissipated. He hatched a plan to loot all the valuables left behind by the townspeople. He had all the stolen valuables hidden in trucks stored in the chemical factory and created the Toxic Mutant to scare any potential witnesses away. When Mystery Inc. began investigating the crimes, Knight tried to frame Fred for the crime, prosecuting him in a criminal court case. However, he was acquitted after Mystery Inc. instead exposed Knight as the true culprit.

Trivia[]

  • Safety Springs contains many parallels with real-life Chernobyl in Ukraine, the location of the worst nuclear disaster in history. Similar to Safety Springs, Chernobyl was abandoned in 1986 after a nuclear power plant meltdown.
