He was a great person, and was confused on seeing his relative and her friends being at an unexpected crime scene. He was so focused on apprehending the criminals that he didn't think about calling help for the gang.

He arrived just in the nick of time and saw her cousin and the rest of the gang on top of a fake spaceship that was used by a group of art smuggling thieves.
The site confused him a little, but Velma asked him to climb on just to hear her explanation, despite the UFO slowing sinking because of everyone's weight, and tells him about what happened. Afterwards, he arrests the thieves for their art stealing operation, but didn't think about wanting to help the rest of the gang get back to Kansas and their van.
