The Ringtone Mystery was a Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated promo and "Silence Your Cell Phone" PSA which aired at select AMC Theatres.[1]
Premise[]
Mystery Inc.'s trip to the movies is interrupted by a ringing cell phone.
Synopsis[]
In the middle of a showing of a horror film, Daphne is upset that Fred is more focused on an issue of Traps Illustrated than being there with her, although it's soon revealed that Velma is there as well, and not at all bothered by it. Suddenly, a ringtone chimes out in the crowded theater, frustrating them all. At first Daphne accuses Fred, but once it's realized that it's none of them, they decide to go looking for the "Cell Phone Phantom", standing up and proceeding with flashlights, much to the displeasure of those around them.
As they reach the aisle, they're startled by, what appears to be, a dragon-like beast. Turning their flashlights on it however reveals it to be Shaggy and Scooby-Doo, carrying large piles of theater snacks. Scooby engulfs his in a single bite and the pair hesitantly agree to help with the mystery when they hear the ringtone sound off once again.
As they continue through the theater, Scooby sniffs along people's feet as Shaggy swipes a woman's popcorn. By this point, the entire audience has been disturbed by the gang and their flashlights, audibly groaning and complaining.
Fred finally spots the culprit, Daffy Duck, who believes he's solving the problem by changing his ringtone to something less annoying, rather than turning it off. The gang turns to the "fourth wall" to announce that the mystery's been solved, to which the entire audience turns on them, telling them to quiet down and referring to them as meddling kids.

Notes/trivia[]
- The copy of Traps Illustrated that Fred is seen reading is the same issue that appeared in the episode The Creeping Creatures. That episode marked the first appearance of the magazine, and because Fred acted so concerned about Daphne seeing it then, if this is meant to be canon, it would likely be set after that episode, as Fred has no shame reading it beside her.
- This version of Daffy Duck is the one which appeared on the 2011 series, The Looney Tunes Show.
Cultural references[]
- One of the clips of the horror film seen appears to be an updated version of the "bats flying from the haunted house" portion of the Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! opening theme.
Quotes[]
Daphne: Oh, that is so rude. That's not you, is it, Fred? |
