Ricky Owens was one of the missing original Mystery Incorporated members who disappeared in the Crystal Cove Caves. He returned under the alias of Mr. E having built a seedy corporation called Destroido Corp.
The original Mystery Inc.'s Ricky is the older counterpart of the younger Mystery Inc.'s Shaggy Rogers due to their appearance and personalities, as well as their respective friendships with their team's mascots, Professor Pericles and Scooby-Doo.
He also shared a (somewhat) similar relationship with Cassidy Williams to the one shared between Shaggy and Velma Dinkley; Cassidy was attracted to Ricky, and the latter couple were actually in a romantic relationship. Ricky, Cassidy, and Pericles also paired off like Shaggy, Velma, and Scooby, respectively, when looking for clues.
Ricky is a Caucasian male. As a teenager, he was skinny and had slightly messy, dark brown hair. He wore a white and yellow-green striped T-shirt. Like everyone else in the original Mystery Incorporated, his shirt had a golden magnifying glass in the corner with a question mark.
Ricky sometimes messed up through carelessness. He was always nervous, adding "Daddy-O" to his sentences.

Ricky tried to help Professor Pericles by standing on an organ in the old condemned church, then tried to climb the organ pipes, which came crashing down. This led to the accidental discovery of the picture of the Planispheric Disk.

- Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated
- Ricky's appearance is an allusion to Maynard G. Krebs, the character on the 50s television program The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, on whom the 1969 character of Shaggy Rogers was originally based.
