Rabbi Harz is the father of Meir Harz and the owner of a synagogue, where he hosted his son's wedding.

Physical appearance[]

Rabbi Harz is an elderly man with a long, white beard, glasses with semicircular rims, and a blue yarmulke. He wears a long, black robe and a fringed scarf with black and blue stripes (similar to a tallit).

Personality[]

As suggested by his profession, Harz is a devout Jewish man, valuing religious traditions and customs. He considers technology such as an electric menorah to be sacrilegious, and he opposed his son marrying a non-Jewish woman. While he had affection towards his son, he considered the bride, Cyndy, to be unfit to marry him, even criticizing the unconventional spelling of her name. He also cited his late wife, believing she would have felt the same way about Meir marrying Cyndy.

When attacked by the demon queen Naamah, Harz faithfully turned to belief, performing a ritual to summon a golem. He changed his view of Cyndy after she was revealed to be innocent of the crime. The rabbi apologized to Cyndy for judging her, lovingly welcoming her into the family. However, he still maintained his devout beliefs, crediting the spirit of Yosef Sheda for the monster's capture.

Harz speaks in a formal tone, similar to that of a religious text, and frequently incorporates archaic Yiddish words in his speech.

History[]

Scooby-Doo (DC Comics)[]

Rabbi Harz hosted the wedding of his son, Meir Harz, and Cyndy at his synagogue. However, conflict arose when Cyndy reminded him of the Rialto Firm's offer to purchase the synagogue from him. Harz condemned the wedding, criticizing his son for marrying a Gentile and calling the Rialto Firm's electric menorah an "abomination." The wedding was then interrupted by the supposed demon queen Naamah, who threatened them to leave the synagogue. After the attack, Rabbi Harz permitted Mystery Inc. to investigate the monster while he replaced the light bulbs that the monster broke.

The rabbi was later seen performing a ritual in his study, summoning the golem Yosef Sheda into existence to protect him. As Naamah attacked him, the golem also appeared and captured him. The golem was unmasked and revealed to be one of the wedding guests, Levi Levy, who was trying to scare Harz out of the synagogue so the Rialto Firm could acquire it. Though the golem was revealed to be one of Levy's robots, Harz still believed it was controlled by the spirit of Yosef Sheda. He apologized to Cyndy for judging her and welcomed her into the family.
