Private Velmjamin is the sixth episode of the second season of Velma.

Premise[]

Norville and Daphne have discovered that his grandmother, Edna Perdue, has been alive and in hiding for the last 30 years. Edna tells them that the brains of Lola, Brenda and Krista are dying, but she can save them. Edna enlists Velma to infiltrate the army camp for the vital ingredient. Meanwhile, polls suggest Donna and Linda are a shoo-in for Sheriff - but will another emasculated body ruin their chances?

Synopsis[]

Velma participates in her school's job fair to help Sophie's station, where Velma looks for advice from people who follow their dreams. However, she speaks with Perdue, now disguised as Daphne. After revealing her identity, Perdue advises her to abandon her emotions to pursue her dreams, as feelings only create distraction. Explaining that Lola, Brenda and Krista are dying, she goes to Mr. S' laboratory to create the solution needed to save them. However, while distracted, Velma fails to synthesize the chemical correctly, and Perdue does not have the ingredients needed to start anew. Velma is then tasked with breaking into Fort Crystal to steal more glutamine crystals.

After Velma leaves, Perdue privately reveals to Norville that she does not believe Velma can acquire the crystals in time, meaning the girls' deaths are nearly certain. Norville decides to help them fulfill their bucket list, helping them start their own band to perform at the job fair. However, when Blythe, believing her to be Daphne, speaks with Perdue, disparaging Perdue for abandoning her in favour of her research. When an enraged Perdue responds angrily, she is suspended from school. Perdue privately admits to Norville that she had the glutamines all along, only sending Velma to Fort Crystal so she could investigate the operations being held there.

Meanwhile, Fred visits the church to return his Catholic paraphernalia to Father O'Rourke. Unaware he has been murdered, he fails to find O'Rourke in the church. However, an unseen woman, mistaking him for the priest, invites Fred into the confession booth, and Fred, out of sheer amusement, decides to pose as the priest and listen to her confession. After a thought-provoking conversation about his mother, the woman asks Fred for his phone number, which he gives. However, the woman suddenly disappears, nowhere to be found. Still, Fred becomes romantically attracted to the woman, despite never having seen her true appearance.

To infiltrate Fort Crystal, Velma enlists in the military with the help of Gigi's father, Don. After driving to the fort, the soldiers at the gate confront Fred, who had fallen asleep inside the vehicle. Don welcomes Velma, as enlisting her would help improve the army's reputation, as well as Fred. Don gives Velma a tour of the fort, where Velma takes advantage of a distraction (an accidental missile launch) to sneak away from the tour unnoticed and head to the weapons facility. The guard dogs attack Velma but submit when the missile is shot down, as they fear explosions.

Velma advances to the room where the glutamines are supposedly being held, but find only a storage closet. However, they look through a ventilation duct and find that the military is conducting a new incarnation of Project SCOOBI, also seeing the bodies of Krista, Brenda, and Lola. Suddenly, after Fred's phone rings, Don and Aman catch them. Don denies the existence of the new Project SCOOBI, and scientists quickly hide the laboratory. As punishment for spying in a restricted area, Velma is required to promote the military to students in the job fair. However, she meets with Perdue in hiding, revealing her findings with her. Perdue gives Velma the glutamines required to save the three girls. While their dying brains perform at the job fair, Velma quickly creates the solution and places it in the brain jars just in time to save their lives.

After the incident, Perdue speaks with Norville, suggesting that his hallucinations must be caused by an external source. She also speaks with Velma, where she suggests the murder victims may be connected. Returning to the insane asylum, Perdue discovers that Daphne's brain has disappeared, having been stolen by a group of cockroaches. Meanwhile, Fred testifies for the military in court to absolve Don for accidentally launching the missile. However, he receives a call from his lover, who suddenly reveals on speaker phone to the entire jury that she is the serial killer. Suddenly, Father O'Rourke's body is thrown in front of the judge from an upper floor.
