Along with Griswald, he wanted revenge on the curator for cutting their funding on the Babylonian project by dressing up as a mummy. This was not his true motivation, however. He was paid off by Ben Ravencroft to stage a mystery to attract the gang, so that Ravencroft could meet them and get their help to find an old spell-book.
