This article is about the monster from Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. For the other incarnations, see Miner Forty-Niner (disambiguation).

The Miner 49er was one of the four monsters accidentally brought to life by Scooby-Doo and Shaggy Rogers's antics when messing around with the monster making machine.

Physical appearance[]

Miner 49er was tall, obese, and had a huge beard and blue eyes. He wore typical mining clothes. He also has green mist surrounding his body.

Scholastic version[]

He has pale skin, a slightly smaller beard and white eyes. He is shown wearing a fuzzy dark blue hat and a lighter blue shirt while carrying a pickaxe.

Personality[]

Unlike his original counterpart who is usually expressionless and only makes moaning sounds, the Miner 49er is shown to be more expressive and lively and is even capable of speech. He seems to be more aggressive than his animated counterpart as shown when he attempted to breath fire on Fred Jones and Shaggy Rogers and Scooby Doo during the chase at the Coolsville's old mining town.

Powers and abilities[]

  • Pyrokinesis: Miner 49er has the ability to breathe fire out of his mouth.
  • Enhanced Durability/Superhuman Strength: Miner 49er seems to have enhanced durability and strength, as he was seen powering through numerous fences while chasing Shaggy and Scooby, breaking them all, without even flinching at it.

Equipment[]

  • Pickaxe: Miner 49er wields a pickaxe that he can use to hit his enemies with.

History[]

SDMU Miner 49er DVD

Costume in the Coolsonian.

Early life[]

This costume was worn by Hank who was caught by Mystery Incorporated. The costume was donated to the Coolsonian Criminology Museum.

Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed[]

When Miner 49er was transformed into a real monster, he was shown to breathe fire, unlike his man-in-a-mask counterpart. Scooby and Shaggy found this out when they ran into him after Velma gave them the control panel. They used Scooby's flatulence to blow his fire back at him. Shaggy thought he got rid of him when he blocked his fire with the power of Scooby's flatulence; however, he is later seen, implying that he was not defeated. This was confirmed in the showdown with the final monsters (Pterodactyl Ghost, himself, Zombie, Tar Monster, and the Skeleton Men). He was last seen turning into dust along with the Zombie once the control panel was brought to the base.

Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (GBA)[]

The Miner 49er was brought to life accidently by Shaggy and Scooby's shenanigans with the monster making machine, but they escaped before he could attack.

He later encountered and cornered them in a shed, where they "played a game" that involved them fighting, but was defeated after the Scooby landed 20 successful hits. He was then knocked out after his fire breath was launched back into his face by Scooby's flatulence.

Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (PC)[]

The costume was among the many that were broken and had it's pieces scattered about the museum after the Pterodactyl Ghost came to life and attacked, but was put back together and placed on display again.

However, it was stolen off screen and brought to life by the Evil Masked Figure. The Miner 49er then would hunt after the gang during their exploration around Wickles Manor, alongside other monsters, then would compete in a dance off with Shaggy when he and Scooby were undercover at the Faux Ghost (shortly discovering their identity when they bested the Black Knight Ghost). He would appear along with the Skeleton Men trying to scare Shaggy and Scooby on a minecart, and finally chase the two, mainly Shaggy, around the mines at Monster Hive trying to retrieve the control panel, but ended up failing during a chase on carts since it crashed into a wall.
