Max Kilobyte was a prototype robot that was tested during a Jeopardy! game. It was developed and operated by Weatherly, but hijacked by the show's cameraman.

Physical appearance[]

Kilobyte was a white and silver robot with long, bending mechanical arms, a single eye, and a light on its chest. The robot's eye and chest light changed colour depending on the robot's perceived mood.

Personality[]

Deeming the robot brain to be superior to that of a human, Kilobyte was extremely determined to win the game to prove its intelligence. Despite being a robot, Kilobyte appeared to exhibit emotions, such as joy, pride, and anger. As such, when it failed to win, it became extremely violent, destroying the set and attacking the contestants. However, according to its developer, Weatherly, the robot was not programmed to behave as such, indicating that Kilobyte's actions were influenced by an outside source. When not being hijacked, the robot behaved in a more stoic manner, answering the questions more calmly.

Skills and abilities[]

  • Physical strength: Kilobyte possessed superhuman strength, both in its arms and legs. It was capable of destroying furniture with its bare arms and kick wreckage strongly enough to destroy other set pieces.
  • Trivia knowledge: Kilobyte had knowledge covering a wide variety of topics, which proved advantageous in trivia contests such as Jeopardy!. However, this ability depended on the person controlling the robot; the robot was fed the answers to the trivia questions by its hacker.

Season two[]

Kilobyte was a robot designed by Max Kilobyte Robotics, being developed by Weatherly. It was invited to compete in a game of Jeopardy! hosted by Alex Trebek, competing against Shaggy Rogers and Velma Dinkley of Mystery Inc. However, when Velma gained a lead by answering several questions in a row, the show's cameraman, having invested in Max Kilobyte Robotics, decided to hack Max Kilobyte to ensure its victory in the game. This allowed Kilobyte to answer the questions correctly, but when it started to lose, it would become violent, damaging the set and attacking the host and other contestants. Eventually, Kilobyte lost all its points during the Final Jeopardy round, leading Shaggy to be crowned the winner. Losing the contest, Kilobyte became belligerent before malfunctioning, deactivating itself. Velma used the robot's IP address to expose the cameraman for hacking the robot.

Trivia[]

  • Max Kilobyte is likely based off of IBM Watson, a machine that competed against Jeopardy!'s top two contestants; Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter in 2011.
