John B. Wellcott, a businessman, hired two crooks to dress as ghosts to scare people from going through the caverns and prevent them from discovering his waste dumping operation. He was eventually found out and arrested when the sheriff and others learnt after realizing that the stories from the creepy old lady had a connection with each other.
