Like a Cracked Mirror is the first of two stories in Scooby-Doo #8, by DC Comics. It was followed by Kung-Food Fightin'!

Premise[]

The gang find themselves unwelcome at all the restaurants they try, and they discover that a group of evil, identical counterparts has been defrauding the restaurants with fake credit cards.

Synopsis[]

After being on the road for quite some time, the gang decided to stop at a restaurant for lunch. However, the restaurant's staff members chased them out and threatened to call the sheriff on them. They soon faced a similar situation after stopping at a burger joint, prompting them to wonder where can they stop to eat.

Eventually, the gang arrived at a diner, where the staff members didn't react negatively at the sight of them. Unfortunately, the diner doesn't allow dogs inside, forcing Scooby to stay behind on the Mystery Machine while the others went in for lunch, but not before Shaggy promised to order take-out for him.

While waiting for the gang to finish their lunch, Scooby was lured away by the smell of a giant sandwich from the diner's kitchen, but he was forced to run away after being discovered by a cook and unknowingly got on a van illegally parked at the back of the diner that looked identical to the Mystery Machine.

Back inside the diner, the gang were waiting on Shaggy to finish his stack of pancakes, completely unaware that a group of their identical-looking doubles were seated in the booth next to them. After the double group took their leave, a waitress came to the gang and asked if they know the doubles, explaining that she was given a phony credit card by said group.

Figuring out that the phony credit card may have something to do with them getting chased out of the two previous restaurants they've tried earlier, the gang headed out and returned to the Mystery Machine, only to find that Scooby had disappeared. After a fruitless search, they realized that Scooby may have boarded the van driven by their doubles by mistake, prompting them to rush back to the Mystery Machine and drove off.

Meanwhile, Scooby woke up in the van driven by the doubles, but the sight of him covered with a blanket unsettled them, resulting in them crashing into a kung fu studio. When the doubles tried to get Scooby, the kung fu students, recognizing Scooby, took down the doubles before they can hurt him. After the real gang arrived, they explained that their evil doubles have been defrauding various restaurants in the area with fake credit cards. Their evil doubles were subsequently taken into police custody.
