Season two[]

Captain Cutler, a criminal mastermind, hired Karen to disguise herself as the ghost of Half-Beard, a historical pirate. Through the mystery, he hoped to intrigue Fred into investigating the crime, locating Half-Beard's lost treasure in the process. He first lured Mystery Inc. to a seafood restaurant nearest to the treasure, then Karen, promised half the treasure, chased them towards Double-Cross Cove where the treasure was located. As Fred, Velma, and Daphne investigated the docks, they saw Karen appearing to poach Cutler's lobsters.

As Mystery Inc. and Cutler finally found the treasure at the bottom of a pool, Karen attacked them as the ghost. Daphne posed as her ancestor, pirate hunter Ginger Fuzz, and fought the ghost with a sword. Though the ghost initially overpowered her, Cutler knocked it unconscious with his helmet. Karen was unmasked and exposed as the culprit, but Cutler escaped with the treasure, sending a letter in which he admitted to masterminding the entire plot.
