Jamison Steven Ripley was the star of TV-series called "The Round Table Gang," playing the character of Sir Lancelot. According to Daphne, the show was about a teenage version of King Arthur and his court. Velma Dinkley was a big fan of the show, particularly of Ripley (even owning an action figure of his character from the show).
By the events of Large Dragon at Large, TRTG had been cancelled for quite some time and Ripley eventually claims to Velma and the gang that after the show was cancelled, the only work he was able to find was at places like renaissance fairs.

He's somewhat disillusioned by his role, believing his character to be more than just a television role. As such he showed generosity by signing Velma's action figure of him for free. His true colors came through when he was caught, trying to find the treasure.

Jamison is revealed as the culprit.
He operated the Glasburgh Dragon by remote-control so that he could drive people away and find a treasure that was supposed to be in the castle. In reality, the myth of the treasure was just made up by Ewan McEwan as a way to attract tourists to the fair.
