Howard Gruger was the assistant of Jerry Sloan, the creator of The Blue Scarab comic.
Physical appearance[]
Howard is a tall muscular man with brown hair, thick black eyebrows and prominent cheek-bones. He wears an olive green polo shirt, brown pants with a white belt and black shoes.
Personality[]
He appeared very bitter about being unknown by his boss. He was also quite ruthless and immoral, being willing to steal valuables to ruin his boss' career and even harm innocent people to avoid getting caught.

Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo (first series)[]
Gruger unmasked.
He was Jerry Sloan's assistant who helped with the lettering for the Blue Scarab comic books. However, Gruger was sick of being Sloan's unknown assistant, so he dressed up like the Blue Scarab and committed crimes to scare Jerry into ceasing production of any more comic books and tarnish the character's reputation so it would give Gruger a chance to create his own comic book character and be famous himself. He first met the gang when Scrappy ran into him, seemingly mistaking him for the Scarab, who he denied seeing. He was however unmasked as the Scarab, and later arrested for his actions.
