Professor H.P. Hatecraft is a novelist and a teacher at Darrow University. He has a large fan following for his horror books featuring the fictional character "Char Gar Gothakon", such as The Shrieking Madness of Char Gar Gothakon: The Beast That Hath No Name.

Physical appearance[]

Professor Hatecraft is a tall and slender man with black hair, a black goatee, and dark deltas under his eyes. He has pale skin, as if he is rarely outside in the sunlight. He wears a black suit with high collared white shirt, a black necktie, and black shoes. In attempt to appear trendy while writing a teen vampire novel, he switched from a more traditional hairstyle to a side shave.

Personality[]

Hatecraft has rather depressed mannerisms as if to suggest he has actually seen some of the horrors he has written about in his books. He is something of a bibliophile which is not unusual for a professor of English and a writer.

History[]

Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated[]

Season one[]

When he admitted his books were made up rather than inspired by extra-dimensional beings, he drew an attack from Char Gar Gothakon itself, or at least its impersonator.[1]

He helped the gang by borrowing the Dusk Van for them to use after they lost the Mystery Machine. He lost his job over this, but eventually got it back when a Japanese song based on his book made a lot of money for Darrow University.[2]

Notes/trivia[]

  • He is based on H.P. Lovecraft.
  • He is voiced by Jeffrey Combs, who is best known for appearing in H.P. Lovecraft film adaptations directed by Stuart Gordon such as Re-Animator and From Beyond. Combs is also known for mostly appearing in horror films, including Edgar Allen Poe in an episode of the horror anthology Masters of Horror and "The Black Cat", which was directed by Gordon. In addition, Combs portrayed Lovecraft in the 1993 movie Necronomicon.
