The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef, located off the northeast coast of Australia in the Coral Sea region of the Pacific Ocean. The reef is over 2,300 kilometres (1,400 miles) long and covers an area of over 340,000 square kilometres (130,000 square miles).

Mystery Inc. visited the beach near the Great Barrier Reef. However, during their investigations of a coral creature, Shaggy and Scooby were kidnapped and enslaved, forced to dig a tunnel under the Great Barrier Reef. Mystery Inc. caught the culprit, Spencer Johnson, who was intending to build the "Reefway," a highway under the Great Barrier Reef connecting Australia to New Guinea. (Reef Grief!)
