History[]

Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?[]

The ghost of Abraham Lincoln was the disguise of Mudsy, a member of the Funky Phantom Crew, who wanted to stop his group from fighting with Mystery Inc. The two groups were competing against each other to investigate the ghost sergeant attacks on the Pennsylvania Historic Battlefield, so Mudsy used the disguise to encourage the two groups to collaborate. He first appeared to Scooby and Shaggy, the only members of Mystery Inc. who did not participate in the bickering, at an antique store.

The ghost later appeared to both groups as they fought over a clue on the battlefield. He encouraged the two groups to share the evidence to investigate the crimes together. The two groups finally formed a truce at the diner, though Velma continued to deny the ghost's existence. The ghost then helped them create a trap and capture the ghost sergeant, unmasking the perpetrator. However, after the ghost accidentally quoted a different president, Velma unmasked him and exposed Mudsy for posing as the ghost.

Trivia[]

  • This monster is the only monster in Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? that did not attack Mystery Inc.
  • The ghost says a quote attributed to the real Abraham Lincoln: "You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today."[1]
  • The ghost also says a quote he claims is his own: "Ask not what a mystery can do for you, but what you can do for a mystery." However, as Augie Anderson pointed out, this is not a quote attributed to Abraham Lincoln, but another president, John F. Kennedy.[2]
    • The original quote is "Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country." This quote was said in his inauguration speech.[2]
