The Ghost Monster was a monster within Carol Burnett's virtual reality world, created using a computer virus. It was the disguise of lead programmer Gemma with the help of three other programmers.

Physical appearance[]

The ghost monster was a glowing blue figure with skeletal facial features, having sharp teeth and glowing blue eyes, and pale, similarly-glowing limbs. The ghost monster took countless forms, disguising itself as characters of the film it is in. However, by default, it wore a large, torn black cloak and grey appendages wrapped around its arms, hands, and legs.

While in Casablanca, the ghost monster was seen posing as a pianist and a pilot. In The Searchers, it was seen as a cowboy, a bartender, and three gamblers. In A Night at the Opera, it was seen as a waiter. Lastly, in The Wizard of Oz, it was seen disguised as the Wicked Witch of the West, which is the only disguise which did not have the ghost's facial features.

Personality[]

The ghost monster was a hostile monster who appropriated various characters across multiple films to attack its victims. However, the only character whose personality the ghost monster appropriated is the Wicked Witch of the West, the film's primary antagonist who abducted Burnett and Daphne and sought to take their ruby slippers. The other characters the monster portrayed were monstrous, hostile monsters who attacked their victims by chasing. As these characters it did not speak, instead letting out a shrieking noise.

Powers and abilities[]

  • Appropriation: The ghost monster is capable of instantaneously donning and removing disguises, allowing it to portray the various characters across multiple films.
  • Duplication: Being a computer virus, the monster is capable of duplicating itself, allowing it to portray multiple characters at once. In The Searchers scene, it was seen portraying five characters at once.

Season two[]

The Ghost Monster was a computer virus created to infect Carol Burnett's virtual reality simulator, Movieland, designed by four programmers (Gemma, Tammy, Todd, and Cal) involved with the project. The lead programmer, Gemma, disguised herself as the monster within the simulation and attacked Mystery Inc. and Burnett as they beta-tested the simulation. As they toured the worlds of Casablanca (1942), The Searchers (1956), A Night at the Opera (1935), and The Wizard of Oz (1939), the ghost monster attacked them by portraying the various characters within the films.

However, in The Wizard of Oz, while the ghost monster attempted to disguise itself as the Wicked Witch of the West, Mystery Inc. and Burnett captured the ghost monster by rewinding to the start of the film, then crushing the monster under Dorothy's house. Gemma was unmasked, and the four programmers confessed to their actions in the real world. Burnett forgave them for creating the virus, stating that she would create a new simulation with the ghost monster in it.
