The ghost unexpectedly showed up on the European Express when the gang returned from finding a clue in the Buckingham Palace, it surprised Shaggy and Scooby while they were getting food, but they reluctantly got away when the train stopped by where the next clue is located, that being the Louvre in Paris, France.

After they found the next clue, it interrupted their celebration with Roger Railton by sending them an ominous message to stop searching or else they'll be sorry, but that didn't stop them from arriving in Spain. It attempted to slow them down by unhitching their train car during a trip to Venice, Italy, but they still managed to reach the place and find the final hint at the Bridge of Sighs.

It turned out to be Roger Railton's rival Sam Snitch, who secretly snuck onto the train to hear the whole conversation about the fortune, and dressed as the ghost to scare away customers and put Roger out of business, which would've led him into finding the fortune and becoming the richest train owner in all of Europe.
