Frankie is a sandcastle builder dedicated to his craft, but starts a conflict with Smash Mouth because their music destroys his creations. He had a personal feud against Smash Mouth, attempting to kick them off the beach, until Smash Mouth adapted their music to not destroy the sandcastles.

Frankie Martin competed in a sandcastle-building contest organized by Spencer Johnson, who was posing as hippie guru Rama Yam. Unbeknownst to him, Johnson intended to abduct the contestants and enslave them to dig an underground highway. During the competition, Martin started a conflict with rock band Smash Mouth, whose loud music destroyed the sandcastles. When Smash Mouth's concert equipment and instruments were sabotaged, their lead vocalist, Steve Harwell, accused Martin of sabotaging the equipment, though Frankie denied any involvement.
