The Fire Monster of Mount Etna was the disguise of Nana.
Physical appearance[]
The Fire Monster of Mount Etna appeared to be a humanoid monster made of dark volcanic rocks, slightly taller than an average human. Across its face and body are a series of cracks filled with a glowing orange, lava-like substance; when extinguished, this substance ceases to glow and becomes black. Furthermore, its face is featureless apart from two small, glowing yellow bead eyes and a glowing orange mouth; both of these features also "extinguish" and cease to glow.
Personality[]
According to legend, it was created to hunt down evildoers that came to Sicily, so, given Steve Buscemi's reputation, the fire monster relentlessly hunted him down. It was incredibly brutish and aggressive in doing so, and given its pyrokinetic abilities, it has caused much property damage, destroying entire buildings and legitimately threatening to harm others with fire.
Powers and abilities[]
- Pyrokinesis: The fire monster has the unique ability to create flames from the palms of its hand; this is confirmed to be real fire as it has ignited and burned several objects. However, it is unknown how the monster generates fire.
- Fire-based weaknesses: Being fire-based comes with a natural weakness, that is anything that extinguishes fire can harm the monster, such as water, fire extinguishers, and sand, though it takes a significant amount of effort to fully "extinguish" the monster. It is unknown if the monster actually loses strength when extinguished, but it nevertheless tends to evade water. Strangely, this effect is unexplained as it is unclear how the monster glows.

Season one[]
Nana wanted to help improve her cousin, celebrity actor Steve Buscemi's, reputation, so she created the Fire Monster disguise so Buscemi would heroically stop the monster. The costume was inspired by a legend claiming that a fire monster appeared from a lava pit during the Norman conquest of Sicily to drive the invaders from the country. The Fire Monster attacked Steve Buscemi for weeks, first seen attacking him at a plaza in Menfi shortly before Mystery Inc. arrived. The monster then attacked Mystery Inc. a second time, severely damaging a bell tower, and a third time, setting a mannequin warehouse on fire. Despite Mystery Inc.'s best efforts to extinguish it, the fire demolished the entire building. This prompted Buscemi to train Mystery Inc. to be firefighters in order to defeat the monster.
Nana unmasked.
Deducing that the fire monster intentionally targetted Buscemi, Mystery Inc. set up a photo tribute in a local museum to trap the monster. Despite successfully luring the monster into appearing, they failed to capture it as planned. The monster attempted to escape to a nearby park, but Mystery Inc. followed, extinguishing the monster with a powerful fire hose. It was then captured and unmasked, and Nana was subsequently handed over to authorities for her crimes, but would later be bailed out.
