Season two[]

The Demon of Salem was the disguise of pie baker Carl Baker, who plotted to rob the bank in Salem with his mother. They planned the heist during the town's Reputation Rehabilitation Festival so they could build a pie stand next to the bank, where they would tunnel into the bank. The disguise was based on a town legend originating from the witch trials, in which accused witch Abetha Bishop summoned a demon to help her escape her trial. They hoped to create mass hysteria with the demon, which would mask the sound of their carbonite drills used to drill into the bank's deposit boxes.

The Demon of Salem first attacked a family of tourists visiting the town. With this, the town's mayor, Mayor Stoughton, convinced there was a witch in the town, started an angry mob to hunt the witch. As Daphne criticized the festival and condemned the witch trials, Stoughton accused her of being the witch and prepared to burn her at the stake. However, the demon appeared, allowing Daphne to free herself. However, Stoughton's mob, now more convinced she was a witch, captured Mystery Inc. and tried them for their crimes.

In order to stop the trial, Mystery Inc. created a plan to stop the demon. While Daphne continued to testify in court, Shaggy and Scooby lured the monster into appearing while Fred and Velma lured an aggressive goat, Thunder. They tricked Thunder into headbutting the demon, sending it flying and crash-landing into the court. The Bakers were exposed for their crimes, and Stoughton apologized to Mystery Inc., condemning his actions as well as his ancestors'.
