- This article about Greek Daphne from the Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! episode Greece is the Word. For other incarnations, see Daphne Blake (disambiguation).
Daphne was the domestic slave of Princess Velmonia in Athens, Ancient Greece, and both joined a mystery-solving group. She is the Greek version of Daphne Blake.
Physical appearance[]
Daphne is a young woman with orange hair and brown earrings. She wears a white and blue sleeveless chiton fastened at the shoulders with bronze pins, as well as a blue belt. She also wore leather sandals.
Personality[]
Despite wanting to be free from her service, Daphne was a caring servant for Velmonia, advocating for her best interests even when Velmonia did not want her to. She encouraged Velmonia to follow her individual agency and pursue her own ambitions, not feel forced to marry Shlemielius for the interests of the city. She was defiant, willing to speak out against Ladon to advocate for Velmonia. While she appreciated Daphne's care, Velmonia did not want Daphne to be impudent against Ladon, as she feels the duty to marry for the interests of the kingdom.
As Daphne helped Velmonia capture Arachne, Velmonia acknowledged Daphne's intelligence and wisdom. She was willing to view Daphne as an equal.
History[]
Early life[]
Daphne served as the domestic servant of Velmonia, princess of Athens. When Velmonia was arranged into a political marriage with Prince Shlemielius of Antagonos, Daphne opposed the marriage, speaking out against King Ladon. Ladon dismissed her, calling her an "impudent maid" and sending her to the gardens with Velmonia. However, as Arachne, a spider monster, started attacking them, Velmonia and Daphne visited the oracle, Scoobymus. The three formed a group with hunter Fredricos and philosopher Shagrates to investigate Arachne.
Because of the Arachne attacks, kings Ladon and Alexandros believed the gods disapproved of the marriage, and both agreed to end the wedding and the alliance. However, Daphne captured Arachne using Ladon's palace security traps, exposing Shlemielius as the mastermind of the attacks. He ordered his servant, Aeslop, to pose as Arachne and stop the wedding so he could invade and conquer Athens. Alexandros condemned Shlemielius' actions and ordered the guards to seize him.
