Dance Matron of Mayhem! is the twenty-first episode of season 1 of Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?

Premise[]

The dance studio Maddie Ziegler won in a competition turns out to be haunted by the ghost of its former owner, who died thirty years prior. Maddie calls in Daphne and the gang to solve the mystery, because if she does not open on time she loses ownership.

Synopsis[]

Celebrity dancer Maddie Ziegler prepares a dance studio in Pittsburgh that she acquired, a dilapidated studio that previously belonged to the late Russian ballerina Madame Zobrinsky. However, while she and two movers help restore the building, the piano comes to life, chasing them out of the building, then Zobrinsky's ghost appears to warn them to leave and never return. Meanwhile, Mystery Inc. tours the city, aware of the studio's grand opening, but they find that the studio has yet to open. They decide to investigate the studio.

Inside, they meet Ziegler, who explains that she won the studio in a dance contest but was haunted by Zobrinsky's ghost. They then meet their first suspect, a city official, who intends to demolish the studio and replace it with a parking lot. Splitting up and further exploring the crime scene, Fred, Velma and Daphne find footprints leading to the exit. Just outside their building, they find a mail carrier who appeared to spy on the dance studio, speaking Russian. Returning to the building, they travel up to the fourth floor, where they find a recently-inhabited penthouse; pictures of Zobrinsky's funeral are hung on the wall with the photographer's fingerprint.

Meanwhile, Shaggy, Scooby and Ziegler play with the studio's creaky floors, but are attacked by the ghost. For not heeding her previous warning to stay away from her property, the ghost places a Russian dance curse on Ziegler. With instructions written on the wall on how to lift the curse, Ziegler is tasked with teaching Shaggy and Scooby one of three difficult dances. Shaggy and Scooby agree to learn from her, and while they initially succeed with dance, the ghost sabotages each of their attempts, leading to a failure.

With Shaggy and Scooby failing to perform one of the dances listed, the ghost appears to confront Ziegler. Deciding to give Ziegler a final chance to lift the curse, Zobrinsky instructs Ziegler, Shaggy and Scooby to perform the Zobrinsky Triangle, a notoriously-difficult and dangerous dance move, in front of a large ballet company. Although no dancer since Zobrinsky has ever succeeded in performing the dance, Ziegler agrees to train Shaggy and Scooby for the performance that night.

At the theatre, Ziegler, Shaggy and Scooby prepare to go onstage for their performance, while Mystery Inc. prepares a trap for the ghost in the theatre. Going onstage, Ziegler, Shaggy and Scooby pretend to fail to do the dance move, luring the ghost into view. However, they then perform the dance successfully, creating an extremely bright glow illuminating the entire theatre. The ghost is brought to tears by the execution of the move, but the trap is triggered, capturing the ghost with a complex contraption.

The ghost turned out to be Madame Zobrinsky herself, who faked her own death and lives to be 103 years old. Following her retirement, she secretly lived in the penthouse above her studio, waiting a dancer she deemed worthy to inherit the property. When Maddie Ziegler looked to acquire the property, Zobrinsky disguised herself as her own ghost in order to test Ziegler's resolve. She used her masterful footwork to move around in seemingly-supernatural ways, and she used static electricity from her old shoes to shock her victims. With Ziegler passing her test, Zobrinsky deemed her worthy to inherit her studio and personally attended its grand reopening.
