Crusty McPete was the owner of a ferry boat shop.

Physical appearance[]

McPete is an elderly man with a brown, pointy beard, black eyes, a prominent hunchback, and at least one missing tooth. He wore a yellow raincoat and hat over a blue T-shirt. He also wore khaki pants and brown shoes.

Personality[]

McPete is a man with a brash demeanour, speaking with stereotypical pirate-like inflections. He is grumpy and unwelcoming to Mystery Inc., attempting to intimidate them with obscure ghost legends. After being found guilty of a crime, he was revealed to also be a greedy man who terrorized the seas to claim a treasure for himself.

Season three[]

After finding the wreck of the Dauntless on the bed of Lake Michigan, McPete created a ghost ship hoax to scare sailors away from the sea so he could scavenge the wreck himself. He created a robotic skeleton crew that operated the ghost ship of the Dauntless. While at a lighthouse, Mystery Inc. spotted the ghost ship, so they visited McPete's boat rental shop to rent a rowboat to reach the ship. McPete rented the rowboat to them, but warned them about the ghost ship. When Fred, Daphne, and Velma boarded the ship, the skeleton crew immediately abandoned the ship on a dinghy, leaving them stranded on the ship.

After Mystery Inc. eventually returned to port, McPete attempted to flee the scene, but was captured by amateur sleuth Verona Dempsey, who exposed him for his crimes. By handing him to authorities, Dempsey effectively used McPete as a decoy, as she herself was responsible for unrelated crimes as the ghost of a lighthouse keeper. Mystery Inc. assumed McPete was also responsible for the Creepy Keeper, only discovering Dempsey's guilt later.
