After spotting a ghost ship, the Dauntless, sailing on Lake Michigan, Mystery Inc. visited Crusty McPete's boat rental shop to rent a rowboat to reach the ghost ship. There, McPete warned them of the ghost ship. Mystery Inc. also met with another sleuth, Verona Dempsey, and they found a small motor which they collected as a clue.
McPete was later exposed by Dempsey for fabricating the ghost ship hoax, remotely controlling its robotic skeleton crew.
